Molumby and Leon F. Molu'mby,
West Union, Iowa Application December 21, 1945, Serial No, 636,468 3 Claims. (01. 132-84) The invention as described herein, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, consists of r a compact pocket prophylaxis dental unit, an obcompact case of barrel form and provided with a compartment for a tooth cleanser and a compartmerit within which a tooth-brush is telescopically mounted.
Gther features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the compact.
Figure 2 is an end view thereof,
Figure 3 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional elevational view,
Figure 4 is an elevatlonal view, certain parts being removed and other parts shown in adjusted position,
Figure 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Figure 4, and v Figure 6 is a similar view on line 5--3 of Figure 3.
While one embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the above referred to drawings, it is to be understood that they are merely for the purpose of illustration and that various changes in construction may be resorted to in the course of manufacture in order that the inventionmay be utilized to the best advantage according to circumstances which may arise, without in any way departing from the spirit and intention of the device, which is to be limited only in accordance with the appended claims. And while there is stated the primary field of utility of the invention it remains obvious that it may be employed in any other capacity wherein may be found applicable.
In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specification. the same reference characters are used to designate the same par-ts and elements throughout and in which It, refers to the invention in its entirety and l I, indicates a barrel divided into two compartments I2 and I3, by a wall ll. Caps l5 and I6, are screw-threaded upon each end I1 and ll, of the barrel. The compartment I3 is adapted to receive a container I3, 01' dentriiice.
A pin 25, is projected through a bore 26, in the end 21, of shank 23 of square cross-section, of the tooth-brush II. The head III, of which brush is oflset by an angular connection 3|, between the head andv shank and whereby the brush will receive and fit into the cap l5, when the shank 23, is telescoped as far as possible into the compartmerit H. The pin 25, centers the shank within the case.
A spacer and guide disk 32, is secured into the end 33, of the barrel II, which disk is provided with a square opening 34, there-through for the passage of said shank 28, and which forms a stop for the pin 25, to limit the out movement of the shank. The shank 28 is of poly-sided or square cross-section to fit opening 34 and hold the shank and brush against turning. Extending from the opening 34, is a slot 35, for the passage of a pin 35, projecting through the shank and spaced from the pin 25, whereby after passing outwardly of the member 32 it may be pushed down through its bore ii, in which it frictionally seats to stabilize the shank and hold the same extended. When it is desired to return the shank the pin 56 is again pushed up to align with said slot 35.
The cap i5, is provided with air vents 38, for ventilation of the brush 29. A clip 39, is provided whereby the device may be secured to a pocket.
From the foregoing specification it will become apparent that the invention disclosed will adequately accomplish the functions for which it has been designed and in an economical manner and that its-simplicity, accuracy and ease of operation are such as to provide a relatively inexpensive device considering what it will accomplish and that it will find an important place in the art to which it appertains when once placed on the market.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings.
tion is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described the invention that which is claimed to be new and desired to beprocured by Letters Patent is:
1. The described device comprising a barrel having a compartment and a tooth-brush havin a square shank telescopically operating in said compartment, said shank being centrally positioned in the compartment, means for centering the shank in the barrel, said means including an apertured disc plugging an end of the barrel, said Therefore, a more lengthy descriphaving a compartment and a tooth-brush having a central shank telescopically operating in said compartment, 8. cross-pin through the shank near its inner end for centering the shank in the barrel,
an apertured disc plugging an end of the barrel and having a hole slidabiy receiving the shank and holding the shank against turning and a slot extending from .the hole, and a sine pin in the shank spaced from the cross-pin and adapted to pass through the slot into the compartment with the shank and outwardly thereof with the disc between the pins to prevent inward movement Of the brush and shank when extended.
3. The described device comprising a barrel having a compartment and a tooth-brush having a central shank telescopically operating in said. 5
compartment, means for centering the shank in the barrel, said means including an apertured disc plugging an end or the barrel through which the shank is slidable and held from turning and a cross-member on the inner end of the shank ensuing the inner surface of the barrel compartment and inner face of the disc to limit the outward movement 01' the brush and shank, means for holding the shank extended, said last named means consisting of a slide-pin in the shank spaced from the cross-pin. the disc having a slot extending from the aperture 01' the disc through which the slide-pin is adapted to Pass and engage the outer face of the disc to prevent inward movement of the brush and shank.
