My invention relates to bag holders and the object of my invention is to provide 'a bag holder adapted to support a bag in open position for filling it.
Another object of my invention is to provide a bag holder having means for releasing the bag when it is filled, which means is adapted to be operated by a foot, leaving both hands of the operator free to handle the bag.
Other objects of my invention may appear in the following specification describing my invention with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention. It is however, to be understood that my invention is not to be limited or restricted to the exact construction and combination described in the specification and shown in the drawing, but that such changes and modifications can be made which fall within the scope of the claim appended hereto.

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the bag holder according to my invention, the upper ypart of the device being shown in section.
Figure 2 is a side elevational View of the bag holder according to my invention, parts being shown broken away and in section.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the bag holder shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Referring now in detai-l to the drawing, the bag holder according to my invention has a bottom frame made from angle irons and open on the front side as clearly shown in Figure 4. The frame has two side members I0 and II respectively. On their rear ends these angles are bent inwardly at right angles forming the rear members Iz2 and I3 respectively, which overlap each other as indicated at I4. Each rear member I2, I3 has a slot :I5 therein, and a bolt I6 extends through these slots connecting the two halves of the bottom frame adjustably with each other.
On each side member I0, lI I a vertical channel post I1 and I8 respectively is fastened in any desired manner, for instance, as shown in the drawing, by means of clip angles I9 and rivets 20. These posts are preferably made from channel iron.
A top frame is constructed out of two halves similar to the bottom frame. Each half is made from Aan angle iron and has a side member y2| and 22 respectively. These side members are 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-97) bent at right angles on their rear ends to form back portions 23 and 24 respectively, which overlap each other as shown at 25. Each back portion has a slot 26 therein and a bolt 21 extends through these slots adjustably connecting the tWo halves of the top frame with each other.
The two side members -2I and 22 of the top frame are each provided with a plurality of holes 28. Through each hole 28 a spike 129 extends upwardly. The spikes 29 on each side are fas-tened to a plate 30. A rod 3I carries each plate 30, extends downwardly therefrom and is located inside the adjacent channel post I1 or I8 respectively. The web of each channel .post is provided with a slot 32 and 33 respectively and each rod 3| is bent outwardly approximately at right angles to extend through one of the slots 32 or 33 as shown at 34 in Figure 1. The rods 3l extend downwardly outside the channel posts to form releasing rods 35 which are linked to a treadle construction 36 which is U-shaped and hingedly attached to the back of the bottom frame parts I2 and I3 respectively, by means of tubular members |31 in which the rear member of the treadle construction is rotatably and slidably arranged. One arm of the treadle construction extends forwardly beyond the releasing rod 35 and ends in a disk 38 or the like adapted to be engaged by a foot of the operator of the |bag holder.
Each half of lthe top member is fastened to the adjacent channel post by means of a plate 39 and rivets 4D.
A spiral spring 4I is fastened to each horizontal release rod portion 34 outside the channel post and to the corresponding top frame portion, exerting an upward pull on the release rods, so that the spikes 29 are kept in the position shown in Figures 1 and 2, i. e., extending through the holes 28 and ready to receive a bag (not shown) and hold it in open position.
When the bag is filled the operator steps on the treadle disk 38, pulling the release rods 35 and the plates 30 and spikes 29 downwardly and thereby releasing the lled bag.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A bag holder including a top frame, a bottom frame, each of said frames comprising two halves adjustably connected with each other, a vertical channel post fastened to each half of the bottom frame and supporting a half of the top frame, a plurality of verticallymovable spikes normally extending through and above each half of the top frame, a plate underneath each half 3 oi' the top frame and supporting the spikes extending therethrough, a vertical slot in the intermediate portion of each post, a release rod extending vertically downwardly from each plate on the inside of the post, then laterally through the slot in the post, and then vertically downwardly on the outside of the post to the bottom of the bag holder. a treadle connected to Ithe lower extremity of both release rods and adapted to move them and the spikes downwardly, and a spring anchored to the top frame and connected to the lateral portion of each release rod for urging the release rod upwardly to hold the spikes in normal position.
