This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in window shade spring adjusting bracket.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a simple and inexpensive device adapted for employment for adjustably holding one end of a window shade in position whereby the tension of the spring in the roller may be changed at will for facilitating the raising and lowering of the shade.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a shade roller bracket adapted for permitting the ready adjustment of the spring of the roller without the necessity of removing the roller pintle from the bracket or in any way interfering with the usual shade rolling operation.
With these general objects in view, the invention-consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention and the companion bracket with a window shade illustrated by dotted lines in its operative position and broken away;
Figure 2 is an outer end elevational view of the keyed end of the shaft roller and bracket with the locking device engaged with the flat pintle of the shaft roller;
Figure 3 is an outer end elevational view, similar to Figure 2, with the locking device carried by the bracket disengaged from the fiat pintle of the shade roller;
Figure 4 is an inner side .view of the bracket supporting the flat pintle of the shade roller with the shade roller pintle shown in section and illustrating the mounting of the locking device on the bracket; 7

Referring more in detail to the accompanying 1 Claim. (01. 160 -324) V drawings,it will be understood that the invention relates to substantially the usual form of window shade I 0 adapted for automatic spring winding upon its roller that is journaled at opposite ends in brackets 'II and I2 secured to a window casing as indicated at I3, the bracket II being the usual free journaling bracket while the bracket l2 supports the flat pintle of the shade rollerthat effects'winding of. the tensioning .springthrough the medium of the usual ratcheting device associated withthe tensioning spring.
' This invention having for its primary object the changing of thetension of the winding spring of the shade roller while the latter remains in operative position in both brackets II and I2, the invention is primarily concerned with the con-. struction of the bracket I2 and devices associated therewith for engagement. with the fiat pintle I4 of the shade roller. As shown in detail in Figure 7, the bracket I2 comprises a substantially circular disk head I5 connected by a reduced neck I6 to a mounting plate I I. The disk head I5 is provided with an edge opening inclined slot I8 opening at the upper side of the disk head I5 with the lower end thereof terminating in a circular opening I9 centrally of the disk head I5, the flat pintle I4 of the spring tensioning end of the shade roller :being received through the inclined slot I8 for reception in the circular opening I9 as illustrated in Figures 2 to 4.
To retain the end H of the tensioning mechanism of the shade roller against rotary movement within the bearing opening I9 therefor, there is provided a locking device carried by the bracket I2 and manually shiftable into and out of engagement with the flat pintle I4. The locking device includes an arcuate plate 20 carrying an angle lug 2| at the outer and upper side thereof and facially projecting from the arcuate plate 20 for pivotal reception in the opening 22 provided in the bracket I2 adjacent its upper edge. To retain the locking device on the bracket I2 there is provided a cam lug extension 23 of inverted U-shape carried by one end of the arcuate plate 20 with the cam lug enclosing the upper edge I5 of the disk head I5 of the bracket I2 and the same end of the arcuate plate '20 that carries the cam 23 is provided with an inwardly extending lug 24 that is shiftable to a position extending over the hearing opening I9 for engagement with the shade roller pintle I4 as illustrated in Figure 2 for retaining the latter against movement. It will at once be understood that the tension of the shade roller spring may be changed at will while the shade roller remains in its bearings in the two brackets II and [2 without removing the shade roller from the bracket as has heretofore been customary.
While there-is'herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit andiscope: of the invention as claimed.
