1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a novel mounting which may be used in securing fixtures of many and varied kinds to a wall or other support for such fixtures. The structure of the mounting is concealed from view, is of a simple and novel character, economically produced. and is very effective for the service for which it is designed. While it has been used primarily in the mounting of towel rods it is available for use for many other fixtures in the bathroom, kitchens or elsewhere.
An understanding of the invention may be had from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which.
Fig. l is a perspective view showing the towel rod as it appears when in its installed position.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section showing a fragmentary portion of the wall support, and the parts first connected thereto.
Fig. 3 is a similar section illustrating the completed connecting of one end of the towel rod with said mounting structure, and
Fig, 4 is a rear elevation of one of the struc tural elements of such mounting.
Like reference characters refer to like parts in the different figures of the drawing.
As shown in the drawing, the towel rod includes an intermediate horizontal length or section I, at each end of which an arm 2 is extended at right angles, both in the same direction.
In mounting towel rods the novel structure of my invention is utilized at both ends of the rod. It includes a flat member 3 shown as of circular form though the form of outline of the member 3 may be greatly varied without affecting or departing from the invention. Such disk. member 3 will lie against the vertical surface of the wall or other support 4 to which the rod is to be secured.
Centrally through the disk member 3 an opening is made and a sleeve like stud is passed through said opening, its forward end being ex- -teriorly threaded, as indicated at 5, and at its rear endit is provided with a non-circular head 6 seated in a recess in the back of the disk member 3 which insures against relative rotation of the disk with respect to the stud. While the head 6 in Fig. 4 is shown square in outline, various other non-circular shapes with corresponding complementary recesses at the back of the disk member 3 obviously may be used.
The stud 5 being of a sleeve character has longitudinal axial opening or passage through it. The first step or operation, for example in mounting the towel rod is to fasten two of the disk members 3 to the wall 4 at properly spaced I'll distances from each other by passing the shank l of the screw having head 8 through the sleeve from its outer end and drive the screw into the support 4, as in Fig. 2, The head 8 of the screw will come substantially against the outer end of the stud 5 but the screw should not be driven so tightly that said disk member and stud may not be turned or rotated about the axis of the shank 7 of the screw on which it is carried.
The 'free ends of the arms 2 are longitudinally bored and, interiorly threaded as indicated at 9 (Fig. 3), having a depth greater than the projection of the stud 5 in front of the outer side of the member 3, plus the longitudinal dimension of the head 8 of the screw used. By bringing said interiorly threaded opening 9 of an arm 2 of the rod to and against the outer end of the threaded stud 5, and by turning the member 3 about the axis of the screw 7, the exteriorly threaded stud 5 is screwed into the interiorly threaded opening 9 until the free end of the arm 2 is brought against the outer face of member 3. This installation operation is the same for ooth ends of the towel rod.
It is of course evident that many other devices than towel rods may be installed in fixed position on and against a wall support or any other support, and whether or not extending horizontally outward from a vertical wall or vertically from a horizontal support or at any desired angular position. Also a plurality of the mountings may be used as two, for a towel rod in the disclosure made, or more for other articles from which more than two laterally extending parts, similar to the interiorly bored and threaded arms 2 may be used; or many articles will require use of but one of the mountings in securing them to a desired support. The invention is not limited in use to mounting towel rods alone but is of value in many other relations.
The structure described is very practical and useful, readily manufactured and assembled, and its installation for use is simple and easy requiring no tool except a screw driver.
The connections described are of a concealed type and are not Visible when installation has been completed. In practice the invention has proved very effective and satisfactory,
The claim appended defines the invention which is to be considered comprehensive of all .forms of structure coming within its scope.
I claim:
In a structure as described, a member having a fiat rear side, the rear side of said member Joeing adapted to be located against a support, a
stud extending through said member from the rear side thereof and terminating in 'front of the front side of the member, said stud having a non-circular head at its rear end and said member having a recess to receive the head to hold said member and stud in non-rotative relation with respect to each other, said stud having a longitudinal axial opening therethrough and at its front portion being exteriorly screw threaded, a headed screw passing through said stud from its outer front end and adapted to be driven into said support, and a member to be connected to and supported by said stud having an interiorly threaded opening into which said stud is adapted to be threaded by turning the first mentioned member and stud about the axis of the screw FLOYD CROCKER.
