JOHN P. REYMOND, OF NEWTONVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
CAPSULE-FILLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,308, dated July 12, 1881. Application filed March 23, 1881. (No model.)
10 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN PAUL REYMoND, 0t Newtonville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvementin Capsule-Fillers, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and usefulimprovements in the construction of devices to be employed in filling capsules; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which my improvement is shown in sectional perspective, A represents the lower section of my device, which consists of a block of wood or other suitable material, and has formed in it the sockets a, in the bottom of each of which is bored a small hole, b, through to the bottom of the section.
B represents the upper section, which is of the same size as the section A, and has formed in it the funnel-shaped holes 0,which are about half the thickness of the block in depth, and terminate in an enlarged opening, d, in the lower face of the block.
D represents a plunger.
In practice the capsules to be filled are placed in the sockets a,with their closed ends down, leaving a portion of the open ends of capsules projecting above the face of the section A. The section B is then placed over the section A, the capsules projecting into the enlarged openings d,while the discharge of the funnels c comes directly over the mouths of the capsules. The powder with which the capsules are to be filled is placed in the funnels, and may be tamped into the capsules by means of the plunger, after which the section B is removed and the capsules closed in the usual manner. By this construction I produce a support for the capsule while being filled, and I bring into use the principle of the funnel, so that the capsules may be filled in an expeditious and cleanly manner, and to their full capacity.
Should the capsules stick in the under section, they can be pushed out by inserting a proper tool through the hole I).
If desired, the pluugers D may be arranged upon a block in such manner as to operate upon all the capsules simultaneously.
I am aware that it is not new to fill capsules by the use of funnels and plungers, and therefore I do not make any claim, broadly, to such invention.
What I claim as my invention is- The device herein described for filling capsules, consisting of the blocks A and B, the lower block having recesses to receive the capsules, and the upper block having funnelshaped recesses Whose lower openings are of smaller diameter than the recesses in the lower block, thus forming shoulders against which the upper edges of the capsules rest, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
JOHN PAUL REYMOND.
