L. SANDERS. CLASP FOR WAIST BELTS.
No. 244,149.. Patented July 12,1881.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO LOUIS SANDERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLASP FOR WAIST-BELTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,149, dated July 12, 1881. Application filed May 27, 1881. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS SANDERS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Waist-Belts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved clasp for ladies waist-belts; and it consists of a clasp which is attached to one end of the belt and provided with transverse slots and intermediate inclined steps which are raised above the body of the clasp, so as to conveniently interlock with a retaining-hook at the other end of the belt.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a waist-belt with my improved clasp, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the clasp on an enlarged scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a ladies waist-belt, and B a clasp-plate which is attached to one end of thebelt, while the locking-hook 0 is attached to the other end of the same. The clasp-plate B, as well as the hook O, is attached, by means of rivets, eyelets, or other fastening devices, to the belt A. The clasp-plate B is preferably placed in the center of the belt, and provided with transverse equidistant slots at and intermediate inclined steps b, which are stamped up from the body of the plate 13, so as to be raised above the same, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. Any desired number of these steps and separating-slots may be arranged in the clasp-plate, the steps forming sockets for the locking-hook 0, so as to admit the convenient closing of the belt for any size of waist within certain limits. The end of the belt to which the locking-hook is attached is made of sufficient length in front of the hook so as to cover the plate entirely, into whatever step the hook may be inserted. A sliding strap at the other end of the belt is then slipped over the belt end in the usual manner, so as to retain the same and keep thereby the clasp properly locked.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a ladies waist-belt, the combination of a clasp-plate provided with transverse slots and inclined intermediate steps, said plate being attached to one end of the belt, with a locking-hook attached to the other end of the belt, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention Ihave signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 13th day of May, 1881.
LOUIS SANDERS.
