1 Claim.

This invention appertains to improvements in billfolds generally and has for one of its objects to provide a billfold with a secret pocket lfor the retention within the same of papers of value, especially bank notes of a higher value than those that are preferably carried within the usual compartment or pocket for quick and easy access.

Another object of this invention has to do with equipping the multiwalled billfold with a removable pocket or .pouch which Will be secreted in the money compartment and retained in place Within the compartment.

With these and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides in the certain new and useful combination, construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and set -iorth in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

Referring to the drawing, the billfold, as it is exemplified therein, is comprised of an outer wall I having a central transverse line of fold as at I2, which is approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure 2, to either side of which are inwardly opening end pockets I4 and I6 that are secured by lines of stitching I8 and 20 to the end and bottom side edges respectively of the wall I0. To close the space between the inner open ends of the pockets I4 and I6 and to form a receiving compartment between these end pockets and the front or outer wall I0, a strip of flexible material 22 which may match the material from which the outer wall is made, is provided and has its ends inserted into the end pockets for its retention in parallel relation with the outer wall I0. This strip 22 has a width equal to that of the interiors of the end pockets I4 and I6, and is of a length such that its opposite ends extend within the pockets to substantially the full depths thereof, and a coin purse I9 is secured to the bottom edge of the pocket I6 by the line of stitching 20.

This billfold structure is more or less conventional and, of itself, does not constitute the invention.

In carrying out the invention the upper end of the wall I0 is bent inwardly upon itself to form the fold 24 and one track 26 of a slide fastener is secured to the fold by a line of stitching 28.

The other track 30 of the slide fastener is secured to the under surface of the top edge of an intermediate Wall 32 by a line of stitching 34 and the wall 32 is provided with tabs 36 at each of the upper corners thereof by which means the wall 32 is secured to the wall I0 by the lines of stitching I8 and 20 by which pockets I4 and I6 are secured and by the line of stitching 38 by which the fold 24 and the upper edge of the track 26 are retained in place with relation to the wall. Thus there is formed the main bill receiin'ng compartment 39 which is adapted to retain bills of small denomination.

For the retention of bills of large denomination and important papers there is provided a pocket 40 having walls 42 and 44 respectively which are secured together by a line of stitching 46 along the two ends and the bottom side edges thereof. Adjacent the closed bottom edge of the pocket a tab 48 is secured between the Walls by the stitching 46 and the free end of the tab is secured be. tween the pocket I6 and Wall I0 of the billfold after the pocket 40 has been placed in the bill receiving compartment 39, with the pocket in an inverted position with relation to the compartment that is with the open end at the bottom l and the closed end at the top. This tab 48 permits the pocket to be removed from the compartment for access thereto.

It will be noted in Figure 3 that the pocket is of a Width to extend beyond the upper track 26 of the .fastener when resting on the bottom of the compartment 39, thus when the pocket is in position in the compartment the track 26 will retain the pocket in position in the compartment and the pocket is of a length slightly less than the compartment 39.

To aid the track 26 in retaining the pocket in position an insert or tab 50 made of stiffer materiall than the material from which the billfold is made is secured to the fold 24 by the line of stitching 38 and the tab is placed at the central fold of the billfold so that the fold passes directly through the center thereof. The tab 50 dependsrfrom the fold 24 for a distance similar to the width of the track 26 so that the tab will not interfere with the operation of the slide fastener. Thus the pocket will be concealed within the compartment 39 and the material will blend with the walls of the compartment to give the appearance of the interior wall surface. Thus bills of large denominationk can be kept separated from the bills of small denomination for general use.

From this description of the invention it will be readily apparent that a billfold of this type 3V embodying the use of a secret pocket that will conceal .bills of large denomination when access is had to the bill receiving compartment, will avoid possible holdup and theft.

It is believed that the construction of the billfold and the operation of the secret pocket will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, combination 'and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired tobe'secured by Let- Y ters Patent is:
