0. E. SAGE.
Mm \uwwxu Maw- @VJVQXQZM PATENT OFFICE.
CARLTON E. SAGE, OF ELKHART, INDIANA.
MIDDLINGS-PURIFIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,628, dated June 28, 1881. Application filed November 5, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARLTON E. SAGE, of Elkhart, in the county of Elkhart, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Middlings-Purifying Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in middlingspurifiers in which there is arranged below a vibrating porous cloth atraveling brush or brushes attached to an endless belt which travels over rollers. It is for the purpose of rendering the cloth clean and the pores or meshes open. When the brushes are in contact with the cloth the bristles stand upward consequently they receive a deposit of impure substance, which is carried around and precipitated into the purified stock below, thereby producing an inferior grade of stock.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and efl'ective means to obviate this imperfection in middlings-purifiying machines by removing the deposit of impure substance from the brushes and precipitating it into that portion of the stock which is sent to the next machine or returned to the same one.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which-my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe its operation and construction.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate like parts.
Figure 1 represents a central sectional View; Fig. 2 a plan view, and Fig. 3 an end View.
In the drawings,A represents the vibrating porous or boltin g cloth. B represents the endless belt that carries the brushes 0, and D the rolls over which the belt B rotates. Below the endless belt B, I place a suitable frame, E, upon which are arranged the series of rectangular bars F. Said bars are arranged diagonally with the line of the brush, and ata suitable distance apart to form the diagonal spaces N, as is shown in the drawings, which represent the device in its relation to the brushes, and fully represent all of the features of my invention so clearly that further explanation is not necessary.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a middlings-purifying machine, the combination, with a traveling brush or brushes, of the frame E, having arranged thereon a series of bars, F, running diagonally with the line ofthe brushes, and arranged at a suitable distance apart, forming the diagonal spaces N, substantially as and for the purpose specified. In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of October, 1880.
