2 Claims. (01. 2-4) This invention relates to new and improved closures for headnet openings.

Objects of the invention include the provision of headnets particularly adapted for use in keeping mosquitoes and other insects away from the head and including an opening in the net, said opening being particularly adapted for the mouth to provide for eating, smoking, etc., while the net is in place over the head, said opening being yieldably maintained in closed condition by means of a resilient strip detachably secured in the net at the ends of the opening and resiliently drawing the material so as to maintain the opening in closed condition, without, however, interfering with easy opening thereof.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. l is a View in elevation showing the complete headnet;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view showing the opening and the manner in which the same is maintained in closed condition; and

Fig. 3 is a detail view of the closing means for the headnet opening.

The use of insect-proof headnets, while often necessary, is awkward and disliked because of the fact that by the nature of the device there can be no openings for access thereinto, since the netting is of limp material and if an opening is placed in the net, the opening will continually sag and remain limply open so that the purpose of the net is defeated. On the other hand, openings in headnets are desirable so that one may smoke and eat with the net in place. This invention discloses means for providing an easily opened headnet in which the opening is resiliently closed at all times when not in use.

The headnet shown in Fig. 1 comprises a fabric part ill for location on the head and preferably including elastic or other cords l2 to maintain the fabric l away from the head. the fabric in being closely woven if desired. The part I 0 has secured thereto, a netted part M which depends downwardly and outwardly in the region of the eyes and nose for visibility and coolness. The part I4 is maintained in distended condition by means of a light band It secured thereto.

Depending from the band l6, there is another netted portion I 8 which converges downwardly as shown in Fig. 1 and may be provided with straps for fastening over buttons to maintain the headnet in place. Just below the band Hi there is provided a selvedged opening 22 which will be located approximately in the region of the mouth of the wearer. It will be clear that this opening would sag and remain open unless means is provided for maintaining the same in closed condition.

For this purpose, there is provided a generally straight resilient wire piece 24 which is shown in Fig. 3, in its normal straight condition before application to the headnet for the purpose of maintaining the opening 22 closed. This resilient wire is provided at each end with hook-like terminations 26. In the application of the wire 24 to the net, the wire is thrust thru the nettin at two spaced point either below or above the mouth opening, and this will locate and position the wire in the net. Then the wire is curved and the hooks 28 are thrust thru the ends of the selvedge forming the mouth opening 22 in the manner indicated in Fig. 2, and it will be obvious that the inherent tension of the wire 24 stretches the selvedge and thus maintains the limp lips of the opening 22 together.

Thi construction does not interfere with use of the opening 22, and fingers, cigars, pipes, etc., may be thrust thru the opening for the purposes of the wearer without distorting the opening to any objectionable extent. Thus it will be seen that the opening 22, while useful for its intended purpose is automatically maintained in closed condition by means of the spring wire 24.

Having thu described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I claim is:

1. A netted head dress comprising a netted inclosure for the head, a slit-like opening therein, and a spring wire of a length greater than the opening detachably hooked into the net at the ends of the opening, the wire being located inside the enclosure, and the hooks extending through to the outside thereof.

2. A netted head dress comprising an inclosure for the head, a slit-like opening therein, a spring wire of a length greater than the opening, hooks at the ends of the wire, the latter being thrust thru the net material, and the hooks being detachably hooked into the net material at the ends of the opening.
