2 Claims.
My invention relates to depilatory devices and refers particularly to depilatory devices in which their effectiveness is due to their abrasive properties.
Many means have been suggested for the removal of undesired, superfluous and objectionable hair from human skin, such means falling within the two general classifications of chemical destruction of the hair and mechanical or manua removal of the exposed hair from the skin, and the devices of my invention fall within the last mentioned classification.
Among the necessary qualifications of a depilatory of the class to which my devices are directed are simplicity of production, inexpensiveness, ease of application, effectiveness in the removal of hair and protection of the skin during its operation, and a consideration of my described devices will show that they possess all of the above-mentioned and other desirable properties.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating modified forms of the devices of my invention, similar parts are designated by similar numeras.
Figure 1 is a perspective top view of one form of a device of my invention.
Figure 2 is a section through the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmenting bottom view of the device of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmenting vertical section of a modified form of the base member of a device of my invention.
Figure 5 is a bottom view of a modified form of a device of my invention.
The particular form of a device of my invention shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3, comprises a base sheet of suitable flexible material Ill, both sides of which carry an abrasive material. A strip ll of suitable flexible material passes through slits I2, I2, the terminals l3, l3 of the strip ll being attached to the sheet of flexible material In by means of staples I4, M,
The sheet of flexible material In may be of one or more layers of any suitable material, as thick paper, cardboard, textile or leather, and may be of any suitable size or shape.
The abrasive material carried by the flexible sheet I!) may be of any material adapted to remove the hair from the surface of the skin upon which the device operates, but of such a character that it will not injure the skin when properly operated to remove the hair.
The slits l2, l2 of the flexible sheet of material 10 are spaced in order to allow one or more fingers of the operator to pass through the loops of the flexible strip H and of sufiicient size to allow of the passage of the strips H therethrough, and any suitable fastening means may be employed for attaching the terminals l3, l3 of the strip II to the flexible sheet Hi.
In the operation of the described device, the strip i l is pulled through the slits [2, I2 forming two loops upon the upper side of the sheet I 0, the strip ll being flush with the under face of the sheet Ill. The operator places one or more fingers through the loops thus formed on the upper face of the sheet, and moves the under face of the sheet upon the surface of the skin from which it is desired to remove hair, the pressure upon the skin being sufficient to remove the hair by abrasion, but not sufliciently great to affect the skin. When usage has deprived the under face of the device of effective abrasive properties, the strip II is drawn from its position over the upper face of the sheet Ill, through the slits I2, [2 forming similar loops over its used face, thus reversing the position of the elements of the device, and allowing the former upper face to be employed as an abrasive element of operation.
The modified form of my device shown in Figure 4 is similar to that previously described, except that the base strip is of suitable flexible material l5, having a separate sheet of flexible abrasive material I6, l6 attached to each of its faces.
The modified form of my device shown in Figure 5 is similar to that shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 except that slots, or openings l1, I! are substituted for the slits l2, I2.
While my described devices have an abrasive material upon both sides of the base sheet, my inventionis not limited to that particular construction, but includes similar devices in which the abrasive material is upon one side only of the base sheet.
It will thus be noted that my invention presents effective, inexpensive and readily applicable devices for the removal of undesired hair without injury to the skin.
12 do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number, arrangement or material of parts disclosed and described, as they may be varied without going beyond the scope of my invention.
What I claim is: 5
1. A depilatory device comprising a. flexible base member at least one side of which carries a fine abrasive material having a plurality of spaced openings therethrough and a strip of flexible material passed through said openings and forming a plurality of loops upon said base member.
