This invention relates to a comb support to be used in cutting hair, the primary object of the invention being to provide a comb support embodying a handle which may be held in the hand of a person cutting hair, to gauge the distance the comb is held from the scalp of the person whose hair is being cut.

An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be adjusted vertically to regulate the normal position of the comb with respect to the scalp of the person whose hair is being cut.

With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is a plan view of a holder constructed in accordance with the invention, the holder being shown as supporting a comb to be used in cutting hair.

Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.

Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the device.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the holder comprises a length of wire material bent upon itself to provide arms 5 and 6 with an intermediate loop member 'I that lends resiliency to the arms 5 and 6 to normally urge the arms away from each other.

The end 8 of the arm 6 is extended vertically at right angles to the arm 6 and is corrugated throughout its entire length providing notches or openings 9. This end 8 is so located with respect to the arm 5 that the arm 5 may be readily moved into any one of the openings'S, where it is held against movement by frictional contact with the edges of the openings 9.

The arm 5 is formed with a right angled end portion I0 having a loop II formed at the outer end thereof. The remaining portion oi the arm I0 extends rearwardly in the opposite direction providing an arm I2, the extremity of the arm I2 being formed into the loop I3. The loops II and I3 are so constructed that they grip the rear or back of the comb held therein, the comb being indicated by the reference character I4.

Thus it will be seen that it is an easy matter to remove or replace the comb within the loops where it will be securely held to the device.

As clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawing, the forward end of the arm 6 is spaced from the arm 5, the arm l5 being held in one of the openings 9, to the end that when the comb is moved over the head oi a person, the comb I4 will be supported in proper spaced relation with the scalp, so that the hair to be cut will be held by the comb to insure the hair being cut at the proper length.

By adjusting or moving the arm 5 to any of the other openings 9, the distance between the comb and head may be varied to regulate the length of the hair being cut. For example, should it be desired to cut the hair close to the head, the arm 5 would be moved into one of the lower openings 9, so that when the arm 6 is moved in contact with the head, the comb I4 will be held at the desired position- What is claimed is:

1. A device of the class described, comprising a handle embodying a length of wire material bent upon itself providing a pair of arms, means at the end of one of the arms adapted to clamp the rear edge of a comb, the handle extending rearwardly from the comb, the free end of the opposite arm having spaces formed therein to receive the adjacent arm, said spaces being olisposed vertically whereby the arms may be adjusted towards and away from each other and held in spaced relation by engagement within the spaces, one of said arms constituting a supporting arm adapted to be moved over the head of the person whose hair is being cut.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a length of wire material bent upon itself to provide an intermediate loop and a pair of arms, one of said arms having its free end disposed vertically and formed with vertically spaced openings to receive the adjacent arm, whereby the arms are held in pre-determined spaced relation with respect to each other, and means at the end of one of the arms for securing the device to the rear edge of a comb to extend rearwardly therefrom.
