The purpose of this invention is to provide an advertising novelty in the form of a skull cap which has letters, characters, or designs thereon which ordinarily appear normal, and which when positioned in the dark and contacted by rays of light will produce a glowing reflection.
The invention is an article with letters, characters, or designs imprinted thereon with silk screen paint through a silk screen, and crystal smaltz, or minute crystal beads applied to the letters, characters, or designs.
Luminous paint is universally used to cause letters, characters, or the like to glow in the dark, but as this is not practical for an inexpensive advertising novelty, it was found desirable to develop a special process for providing a glowing reflection on skull caps or the like.
The object of this invention is therefore, to provide means for producing a glowing reflection on articles such as skull caps, when the article is positioned in the dark and contacted by rays of light.
Another object is to provide means for producing glowing reflections on advertising novelties which may be used on different types of articles.
A further object is to provide means for producing a glowing reflection when rays of light contact the surface with the surface held in the dark, in which the said surface ordinarily appears normal.
And a still further object is to provide a process of forming a glowin reflecting surface, which is relatively simple and inexpensive.
With these ends in view the invention embodies the herein described process of providing a glowing reflecting surface on articles such as skull caps and other advertising novelties.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a skull cap with lettering and a design thereon.
Figure 2 is a detail showing a typical cross section through the material of the cap at any point cutting the lettering or design.
In the drawings the article is shown as it may be made wherein numeral I indicates the cap numeral 2 the layer of paint or ink which provides a pliable binder, and numeral 3 the crystal smaltz or beads.
The glowing reflecting surfaces as indicated by the numeral 4, are provided by making a silk screen with the lettering and design providing indicia thereon, placing a special oil base silk screen imprinting paint on the screen, superimposing the screen on the part of the cap to be imprinted, then forcing the paint through the screen with a rubber squeegee, or the like, and applying the crystal smaltz or minute crystal beads to the imprinted letters or design before the paint dries. The beads may be applied by dipping the imprinted article into a box of crystal beads or the like.
It will be understood that changes may be made in the process without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the use of this process of providing a glowing reflecting surface on articles or objects of any other type or design, another may be in the use of other means of applying the paint or ink, or other holding material, and still another may be in the use of other means of applying the crystal beads.
The process of applying a glowing reflecting surface may readily be understood from the foregoing description. In use it may be applied to articles in this manner and when the article is held or positioned in comparative darkness and in the path of light rays reflecting rays from the crystals will extend in all directions causing a distinct glowing effect, and this may be made to glow with the color of the paint used.
Having thus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A head covering comprising a bowl-shaped cap having indicia thereon, said indicia formed in a design by silk screen imprinting paint to provide a pliable binder, said binder being of a color in contrast to the color of the portion of the cap on which the design is placed, and minute crystal beads held to the surface of the binder and covering the indicia for transmitting the color of the binder through the beads thereby providing a glowin reflecting surface in the form of the indicia when contacted by rays of light.
