This invention relates to coordinate drilling machines with vertical grinding apparatus.
Coordinate drilling machines of this kind have, with regard to those without vertical drilling apparatus, the advantage that workpieces which, after sighting, centering and drilling, are hardened, must afterwards, for equalizing the distortion due to hardening, no longer be fixed and ground on special machines which, as is well known, can be done but by highly qualified workers. The hardened work pieces can again be easily fixed to the coordinate drilling machine and be mended by means of the vertical grinding apparatus. Machines of this kind hitherto used have a cross head rotatable around a column. The cross head, on the one end, carries a drilling device and, on the other end, the vertical grinding apparatus. The drilling and grinding devices lie diametrically opposite each other and, for interchanging the two devices, the cross head must be rotated by the considerable angle of 180. Besides this, since a very great degree of accuracy is required in coordinat drilling machines, a very delicate and complicated pivot bearing of the cross head on the column becomes necessary.
Th coordinate drilling machine according to the invention remedies these inconveniences. It is characterized in that the tool carrier and the vertical grinding apparatus are placed on compound slides. This allows, on the one side, the distance of the axes of tool carrier and vertical grinding apparatus to be very small, that is, to have but a small adjusting stroke, and on the other side, to avoid a pivot bearing.
The accompanying drawing illustrates, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of v invention.

The coordinate drilling machine carries a usual, rotatable table I mounted on a longitudinal slide adjustable by a hand wheel 2. This longitudinal slide is carried by a cross slide adjustable by a hand wheel 2. The bracket 4 of the vertical column 5 has a guide 6 for the horizontally adjustable slide 1. On this latter, slides 8 and 9 are mounted which are adjustable independent from each other and form, together with slide I, compound slides. Slide 8 bears the tool carrier II]. This latter serves for interchangeabl receipt of the tools, such as microscope ll, centering apparatus, marking tool, drilling apparatus (the last three devices are not shown in the drawing). On the slide 9, however, the vertical grinding apparatus l2, whose grind- 2 ing spindle is driven by a compressed-air turbine, is mounted. This turbine is placed in the casing 14 and may be of well-known construction so that it need not be described in detail.
From the above it follows that the vertical grinding apparatus I2 is connected with the tool carrier [0 by the horizontally adjustable slide I common to carrier [0 and apparatus l2. As may be seen, the axis of the grinding spindle lies, owing to the represented arrangement of the vertical grinding apparatus 12, very near to the axis of the tool carrier I0, so that for an interchange a very small adjusting stroke is necessary. On the two ends of the guide 6 stops l5 for limiting the stroke of the horizontally adjustable slide I are provided. These stops 15 are adjustable, in order to allow the shifting stroke of slide 1 to be adjusted in such a way that the axes of the tool carrier I0 and the vertical grinding apparatus 12 are, in working position, centered with regard to the circular table I.
Displacement of the slide 1, after having loosened a non-illustrated locking means, can take place by hand: Vertical displacement of the tool carrier I0 is executed by means of the button l6, and of the vertical grinding apparatus [2 by means of the spindle l1.
What I claim is:
In a coordinate drilling machine, a column, a horizontally adjustable slide on said column, Vertical guides arranged side by side on said slide, two slides mounted in close relation on said vertical guides and movable horizontally with the adjustable slide, said two slides being adjustable vertically independently of each other, a tool carrier on one of said two slides, grinding means on the other of said two slides, and adjustable stops for limiting the horizontal movement of said adjustable slide in opposite directions in dependence upon the distance between said two slides.
