1 Claim.
The present invention relates to an improvement in knitting machines. An object of said invention has been to provide a decker point construction which cooperates with latch type needles in a manner to receive stitch loops therefrom and deposit stitch loops thereon regardless of whether the latch is then open or closed. In this respect, it is therefore a more general object of the invention to provide a decker point which i can be made to operate more effectively and with greater certainty than is'possible with known .forms of decker points.
One embodiment of. my invention in a. form adapted for use in connection with a fiat knitting machine is described in the following specification and illustratedin the appended drawing in which Figure lis an enlarged side view with portions broken away;
- Figure 2, an enlarged fragmentary top plan view of the decker point illustrated in Figure 1; Figure. 3, a fragmentary view illustrating the and the front and rear bed combs of a flat links knitting machine when the decker point is about to engage the needle in the advanced position of said needle in decking; and
Figure 4, a fragmentary view of the parts shown in Figure 3 when the decker point is' about to receive the stitch loop-from the needle in deck- As shown'in the drawing, a decker point according to my invention and indicated generally by, the ordinal I82 is-provided with a butt 8|! at one end and opposed tapered resilient tips or extending from the other end and forming a longitudinal slot between them. The outer end portions of said arms are disposed at an angle to tion'sthereof and are also directed inwardly toward each other to close the outer end of said In operation, when the front bedneedles selected for decking are moved toward the rear bed to the position of initial engagement-with the of a needle and a decker point' bring them to open position, after which said loops slide past the free ends of the latches and rest upon portions of the needleshanks.
As shown in Figure 3, when the decker point as 182 reaches needle engaging position, it is moved downwardly and readily engages the needle hook in theslot between said tlps'lll3, regardless of whether the latch is down, that is closed, or V rocked back'to open position. As the needle returns into the front bed and the hook thereof passes the ends of a portion of the front bed comb, the latch closes down over the ends of said tips 8l3, Figure 4. The needle is then further withdrawn into the front bed to its retracted or neutral position, leaving the stitch loop suspended on the decker point. Thereafter the decker points with said loops suspended thereon are moved to a new position oppo ite the needles upon which the loops are to be-deposited. For this purpose the decker points move downwardly over the exposed hooks of said needles in such a manner that the ends or tips 8|3 thereof come behind said hooks. In so doing said tips are spread :apart to pass the latches, if the latter happen to be down. I v
The decker point constructed as above described permits positive and rapid actuation of or oflset from the inner end por- '45 extending butt anddeformed and slotted at thedecker points, the last formed stitch loops resting spaced resilient arms integral with said straight under the needle latches of said needles are in- *te'rcepted by portions of the rear e As the needle hooks of these loop bearing needles into engagement the needles and points both in removing loops from needles and in placing removed loops on other needles, since it is not essential to operationof the points that the latches be open or closed when the needles are in loop delivering or loop receiving position in relation to said pointsr The above described decker point construction is shown and described but not independently claimed in my co-pendlng application Serial No. 530,761, new Patent No. 2,395,814, and also in my ,co-pending application Serial No. 530,769, now Patent No. 2,395,822, of cation is a division.
A decker point comprising a straight portion deformed at one end to provide a rearwardly opposite end to provide forwardly extending portion and tapering towardtheir outer ends. said outer ends being bent inwardly toward. and
with each other.
