ATTACHINGMEANS FOR DOWNSPOUT OR CONDUCTOR PIPE I Filed May 18, 1944 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor 134111 J EROY. Ca/VA WA Patented Mar. 5, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE A TTACHING MEANS FOR DOWN SPOUT OR CONDUCTOR PIPE Paul Leroy Conaway, Wellsburg, W. Va.
Application May 18, 1944, Serial No. 536,178 1 Claim. (01. 235-209) 9 extending parallel to the upper edge of the sheet of metal and extending in Opposite directions from the vertical cut 8, the ends of the cut 9 terminating short of the side edges of the material to form a pair of wings l and H adapted to bebent'outwardly in opposite directions from their connected edges and extending this character of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture andotherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended. I
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan viewof the the ddwnspouting orconductor pipe section is formed. c
Figure 2 is an edge elevational ,view thereof showing the interlocking edges for the spoutin or pipe section. j
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one section of the pipe with the attaching wings formed thereon. v
Figure 4 is a view in elevation showing the section of the downspouting or conductor pipe in assembled relation.
Figure 5 is a top plan view.
Figure 6 is a front elevational view length of spouting.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of a clamping member for the downspouting 0r conductor pipe and constructed in accordance with my invention.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates a sheet of light weight metal having its side edges bent inwardly at the oppo-, site sides of the sheet of metal to form interlocking flanges 6 when the material is rolled into cylindrical form to form a section of downspouting or conductor pipe as shown at I in'Figure 3. The upper edge or the sheet metal at a point intermediate its side edges i out along a vertical lineas shown at 8 communicating with a cut blank from which of a short in a common plane for placing flatly against the wall of a building or other structure for. attach-- ing the downspouting or conductor pipe section I thereto by means of nails o other fastening devices (not shown) adapted for insertion in openings l2 adjacent the ends of the respective wing members.
The lower end of the section I is tapered as shown at l3 and adapted for telescoping engagement within the upper end of an adjacent lower section for connecting the sections in extended relation.
If desired a clamping member shown in detail in Figure 'l of the'drawlngs may be employed for clamping the section I to the wall of the building, the clamping member comprising a split ring I! the sections of the ring being connected to each other by the interlocking flanges I5 and the upper edge 01 the ring having the wings l6 and I1 formed thereon as heretofore described. The ring member I4 is slit at its side diametrically opposite from its interlocking connection to form spaced parallel flanges l8 and I9 detachably connected by a bolt nut 20.
It is believed that the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A pipe section formed of sheet material adapted to be rolled in cylindrical form and having its side edges connected together, said section being cut vertically and horizontally at its side diametrically opposite from its connected edges to form a pair of oppositely extending wings, above the horizontal out said wings being disposed ooplanar and adapted for positioning against a'supporting structure for attaching the ection thereto, and means for detachably connecting the edges of said vertical out below said horizontal cut. I
PAUL LEROY CONAWAY.
