this instance.
In the modification shown in Figure 4, a cartridge 3I, similar 'to cartridge I6, but of thicker' material, is secured at its butt end 32 to the barrel 33 by a coupling collar 34 in the same manner as holder I4 and is equipped with an explosive chamber 35 and percussive cap 36 just.,
as in the case of cartridge I6. 'I'he front endy of the cartridge 3| has permanently Vsecured therein va anged annular holder 31 for a disc 38 of frangible material secured by a keeper ring 39 in the holder. yAs will be apparent in thisembodiment of theinvention, the outsidev holder I4 of the preferred embodiment is dispensed with and the cartridge attached directlyto the barrel for removal and replacement as a separate manufacturing unit. As will also be obvious, the disc 38 is designed to Ybe broken vunder the force of the explosion to release. the extinguishing powder, designated B, from the cartridge. The car-` tridge V3| may be capped prior to attachment in the same manner as described with reference to the cartridge I6.
The'foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention withoutfurther explanation.
a handle forming barrel of tubular form, a cylindrical cartridge extending axially from one end of said barrel, and loaded with pulverulent lire extinguishing material said cartridge having a buttv endopposed to said fend of the barrel, means in vsaid cartridge adjacent said butt end forming a rupturable explosive containing chamber, means 'to ignite explosive in said chamber from the k,exterior of said cartridge, said explosive chamber comprising an annular flange, and blow out discs ofxwadding fitting in said ange and retaining the explosive therein.
5.In`a`re extinguisher of the class described a-fhandle'forming barrel of tubular form, a cylindrical cartridge extending axially from one end of said barrel, and'loaded with pulverulent fire extinguishing lmaterial said cartridge having a butt end opposed to said end of the barrel, means in said cartridge adjacent said buttl end forming a rupturable explosive'containing chamber, means to-'ignite explosive in said chamber from the exterior of said cartridge, -saidl cartridge having al closure capfrictionally fitting on the other end thereof for detachment under the force of the explosion incident to igniting said explosive, and acylindrica'l holder forsaidcartridge detachably attached at one end' to said one end 'of said barrel and having an open opposite end, said Manifestly, the invention is susceptible-of modiiication in other respects than as herein set forth, andfright is reserved to such other modifications as fall within the scope of the subjoined claims.
What I claim is:
