i Claims.

This invention relates to a bed cover and more particularly to a combination bed cover and garment for babies and children wherein the child may Abe securely and safely held in' lbed and beneath'the covers on the bed.

An object of the invention is to provide a bed cover which may be easily maintained in position over a child in the bed. .Another object is to provide means for safely and securely holding children in bed. Still another object is to provide a bed cover wherein the lower portion of the body of a child is-secured to the central portion of the cover and the child is held in position with respect to the cover. Y

Another object of the invention is to provide a bed cover which securely holds a child in position in bed and which, at the same time,` provides room for movement of vthe child beneath the covers on the bed. Yet another object is to provide a combination garment and bed cover wherein the cover is secured to the garment and is fixed in position on the bed.

In all of the drawings the views are taken from above since both the cover and the garment are normally disposed in horizontal position. l

In the lembodiment of the inventiondescribed herein and referring particularly to Figs 1 and 2, a rectangular cover I of any suitable fabric is formed from the'sections II, I2, I3 and I4, the sections being secured to each other along the seams I5, I6, I'I and I8. Each of the sections is provided along its outer edges with a seam forming the hem I9.l If desired, a suitable bind ing tape may be secured to the outer edges of the cover instead of forming the. hem I9.

A rectangular flap 2i) may be `secured tothe cover along the upper edgethereof, as shown in Fig. 1, or, if desired, the flap 2li may bemade integral with the section I4. Any suitable means may be provided for opening the section I4 and the flap 2G secured thereto along the central lon-v gitudinal line of the section. Preferably, as shown, the means may consist of a hookless slide fastener ZI To the corners of the cover I6 may be secured suitable tie members 22 and 23 Preferablyl the corner portions'. of the cover are equipped with loops 24 through which the tie members 23 may be passed. However, if desired, the tie members,

as shown at 22, maybe integrally formedwith the cover. l

Referring particularly to Fig. 2, a garment` 25 of any desired type may be secured to the cover III. The garment may include a Centrall body portion 26 and leg portions 2l. Shoulder portions 28 provide armholes 29. A hookless slide fastener 351 extending longitudinally alo-ng thecentral portion of the garment may be usedto open and close the same.

The garment 25 is secured to the cover-|1l along the lower por-tion of the garment. Preferably the garment is attached to the cover alone' the reinforced seam 32 with the seam 32 extend-` ing across the crotch of the garment and along a portion of each of the leg openings 33. Hookel less slide fasteners 34 may be provided along the seam 32 between the cover and the garment. If desired, the garment may be attached to the cover as seen in Fig. l by merely securing the crotch portion of the garment to the cover by sewing the parts together.

A tuck 3I in the lower portion of the garment permits adjustment of the length of the garment when desired.

As seen particularly in Figs. 3, 4, 5 and -6, the cover consists of the sections II, I2, I3 and I4 which are secured to each other along their edges in the relation shown in the drawings. the arcuate edges 35 and 31 are straightened and y other along the peripheral edges thereof to form the garment shown in Fig. 2.

A modied form of garment shown particular-y ly in Figs. 9 to 13 may, if desired, lbe used in combination with the cover. This garment is formed of the front section 42, the rear section 43 and the sleeve sections 44 and 45. The edges 46 of the sleeve sections `are secured to adjacent portions of the front andrear sections to pro` vide the sleeves ,4l in the garment shown in Fig. 13. Each of the sleeves may also be secured to the opposed portions'of the same sleeve along the entire peripheral redge to form a sleeve which is closed at the end. 'Ihe front and rear sections of the garment are secured to each other in the same manner as are the front and rear sections of the garment 25. The garment 49 may be secured to the cover in the same manner as that described and shown in connection with the garment 25. The. tuck 4'8 in the lower portion of the garment 4'9 corresponds to thel tuck 3| in the` garment 25 and is used for lengthening the garment when adjustment is desired. Any suitable material or fabric may be used for the cover and for the garment. Preferably, the cover is formed of a fabric such as celanese ormuslin and the garment may be formed of a fabric such as cotton `orrayon.

' By referring herein to a garment to be secured to the sheet of fabric, it is intended to in-v clude any suitable garment which extendsl about the body of the child and may be secured at the central or lower portion thereof to the sheet. It is also intended to include a harness of any con- Y struction by which the child may be safely and securely fixedin position. with respect to the sheet.

In operation, the cover ||l maybe secured to the hed with the tie members. at the corners of the cover being secured to the sides of vthebed. In this manner a lateral tension is exerted upon the end portions of the cover and the end edges are maintained straight as seen in Fig. 1. The

The child is thus secured within the garment and the garment beingfastened to the cover IB holds the child in fixed position with respect to the cover I0. The cover construction, by providing a fullness in the longitudinal. portions of the cover adjacent the central longitudinal portion thereof and on either' side of this central longitudinal portion,y forms elongated recesses in thecover which are4 adapted to provide the infolds 39. These recesses on either side of the central longitudinal portion of the cover permit the child to have a freedom of movement beneath'the cover 'particularly as to its arms and: legs. VIn fact, by

reasonof the recesses and infolds formed therein,` it is possible for the child to lturn and tomove its legs and arms within the cover without disturbing either the position of the cover with respect to the bed or the: position of the garmentwith respect to the cover- The infolds 39 are preferably sufliciently large to allow the childs'leg, for example, to be placed across theY central longitudinal portion of the. cover so that both of the childs legs may be disposed on the sameside ofthe central longitudinal portion of the cover.

"When' the child is to be removed from the bed,

Although the invention has been illustrated with reference to particular embodiments and' has beendescribe'd in connection with specific elements-of construction, it is obviousithat modications and changesmay be readily made without departing from the scoper and spirit of the invention.

I claim:

1. A bedcover and the like comprising a sheet of fabric equipped with' means along the central longitudinal portion thereof for releasably securing the sides off the same together, thelonrgitudinal portions of the sheet adjacent said central longitudinal portion on either side thereof being oflgreater length than thevcentral .longitudinal portion and providingzones of fullness inthe sheet on either side of. the central longitudinal portion thereof, said Zones. being; adapted, to pro:- vide infolds inthe sheet adi-acent .said central longitudinal portion-thereoV means -for securing the edges of the sheet to a bed,and..awfasten' ing member attachedv to said portion of the sheet of fabric equipped with a slide fastener along thecentral longitudinal portion thereof for releasably securing the sides of the same together, the longitudinal portions of the sheet adjacent said central longitudinal portion on either side thereof being of greater length than the central longitudinal portion and providing zones of fullness in the sheet on either side of the central longitudinal portion thereof,said zones being adapted to provide infolds in the sheet adjacent said central longitudinal portion thereof, means for releasably securing the edges of the sheet to a bed, and a garment attached to said portion of the sheet adjacent ,said fastener and accessible through the opening formed by the separation of said sides, said garment being adapted to be removably secured to the body of a child and being equipped with portions for receiving the body, legs and shoulders of a child.

A bed cover and the like comprising a substantially rectangular sheet of fabric, a slide fastener extending from the edge of the sheet to the central portion thereof along the central 1ongitudinal portion of the sheet, said fastener being arranged to releasably secure the sides of the sheet together, the longitudinal portions of the sheet adjacent said central longitudinal portion on either side thereof being of greater length than the central longitudinal portion and providing a fullness in the sheet on either side of the central longitudinal portion Wherebyelongated recesses adapted to provide infolds are formed in the sheet adjacent said central longitudinal portion, reinforcing means in the central portion of said sheet adjacent the inner end of said fastener, tie members at th'e corners of said sheet for releasably securing the same to the sides of a bed whereby the sheet is fixed in position and the end edges are maintained straight, and a garment secured at the lower portion thereof to said reinforcing means and accessible through the opening formed by the separation of the sides of the sheet when said fastener is released, said garment being equipped With portions for receiving the body, legs and shoulders of a child.

4. A bed cover and the like'comprising a sheet of fabric, said sheet being equipped with longitudinal portions adjacent thecentral longitudinal portions ofthe sheet and on either side thereof of greater length than the central longitudinal portions and providing zones of fullness in the sheet on either side of the central longitudinal portion thereof, said zones being adapted to provide infolds in the sheet adjacent saidcentral longitudinal portion thereof, means for releasably securing the edges of the sheet to a bed,

and a garment attached to the central portion of the sheet and adapted to be removably secured -to a child, said garment being provided with a body portion, with portions extending about the shoulders and legs of the child and with sleeves for receiving and completely enveloping the arms of the child, only the portions of the garment which are received about the lower portion of the body and the legs of the `child being attached to the sheet.

5. A bed cover and the like comprising a sheet of fabric, means for releasably securing the periphery of the sheet t0 a bed, a fastening mem- -ber for releasably receiving the body of a child and providing a crotch portion between the legs of the child, and means for securing said sheet to the crotch portion only of the fastening member.

6. A bed cover and the like comprising a sheet of fabric, means for releasably securing the edges of the sheet toa bed, a garment for releasably receiving the body and legs of `a child andv providing a crotch portion between the legs of the child, and means for securing the central longitudinal portion of the sheet to the crotch portion only of said garment.

, 7. A bed cover and the like comprising a sheet of fabric, said sheet being equipped with zones of fullness adjacent the central longitudinal portion thereof adapted to form infoldsin the sheet, a garment adapted lto be releasably secured tota child, said garment being provided with a body portion, with portions extending about the shoulders and legs of the child and with a crotch portion between the legs of the child, and means for securing the central longitudinal portion of the sheet to the crotch portion of the garment.
