Description

Patented Nov. 7, 1944 FFIc-E DISPLAY AND SAMPLE CABINET Nathaniel H. Freeman, New York, N. Y., assigner 'to 'Helena Rubinstein, Inc., New a corporation of New York Application October 7, 1943, Serial No. 505,282
4 Claims.
This invention relates to a sample lipstick counter. cabinet. f
The invention has for its object to provide a counter cabinet in which a plurality of lipstick holders are tiltably mounted in openings or compartments and are independently movable to bring each holder and its sample of lipstick out of the cabinet and into position to be sampled by the purchaser.
I accomplish the object of the present invention by means of an improved device, one embodiment of which is described in the following specification, set forth in the appended claims and illustratively exemplified in the accompany- I ing drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the counter cabinet;
Figure 2 is a substantially transverse sectional view of the cabinet taken on lines 2 2 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a substantially transverse sectional view taken on lines 3-3 of Figure l.
Referring to the drawing, Ill denotes a cabinet, which is the shape preferably of a right angle triangle in transverse section, and whichcomprises an upright back wall II, fiat bottom or base I2 and an upwardlyl and rearwardly inclined front panel section I3, end walls I4 forming closures for the -opposite ends of the cabinet.
The front, panel section I3 is of substantial thickness and is provided with a plurality of parallel similarly shaped rectangular openings or compartments I5, spaced apart from each other by partition walls I6. The end or bottom walls I'I of the compartments I5 slant downwardly and forwardly to a, slight degree while the top walls I8 are cui; preferably at right angles to the front face of the section I3. The compartments I are closed at the inner side by a back panel I9, which is provided with a plurality of cut outs along the lower side, the cut outs registering with the openings or compartments I5. The upper or inner wall of each cut out is disposed above the upper edge of the bottom wall I'I of the corresponding compartment so as to provide a through opening or port 2I at the lower end of the compartment.
Each compartment accommodates a lipstick and in contact with the bottom wall I1. A pin is driven into the bottom of the key piece 23 and depends at right angles therefrom to form a stop engaging the back of the front section I3 to prevent Withdrawal of the entire holder from its compartment.
Mounted on the flat key piece 23, substantially midway of its length is an upright cylindrical holder 26, the bottom or lower end being fixed to the key piece 23 `while the upper free end is provided with an axial bore 21 to accommodate a lipstick substance 28. The lipstick 28 and holderv26 in rest position of the block and key piece, see Figure 2, is inside the compartment, the rearward side of the ho1der26 resting against the panel I9 and the block 22which forms a weight, being directed downwardly towards the rear and bottom walls ofthe cabinet.
To bring any lipstick 28 into exposed position for the purpose of selecting color and taking a sample, the outer tip of the key piece 23' is pressed downwardly by the finger and the lipstick holder is tilted to assume the position illustrated in Figure 3, whereby the front 24 of the block 22 abuts the rear or inner face of the panel I9 and the holder 26 is projected forwardly to expose the.
. lipstick 28.
holder comprising a block 22 at its inner end and v a flat key shaped piece 23 projecting forwardly through the compartment I5 to the outside of the front piece I3. The front end 24 of the block 22 is inclined upwardly and rearwardly at an angle which causes the same to abut the back of the panel I9 when the key piece 23 is held down A cabinet according to the present invention may be constructed to accommodate the entire run of lipstick shades of any particular brand and because of therelatively large amount of at space above and belowthe compartments I5, there is: ample room for advertising .matter and shade names.
Having now described my invention and the Y manner in `which the same operates, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A lipstick display and sample cabinet, comprising a panel having a plurality of openings,
each thereof being adapted to accommodate a lipstick sample, and a, lipstick holder loosely pivoted vin each opening comprising a key portion propanel section between the back and bottom walls having a plurality of parallel upright openings,
each containing a lipstick holder loosely pivoted in said opening and comprising a key portion projecting through the opening to the front of the panel and an enlarged rear portion inside the container, a back panel for the inner side of the front panel to cover the openings except for the lower ends thereof through which the lipstick holder passes, a stop on the underside of each holder to prevent forward movement of the latter through the opening, and a cylindrical lipstick holder upright on the key portion, whereby in normal position the enlarged rear portion of the lipstick holder is inclined downwardly to tilt theA cylindrical holder upwardly and rearwardly into its opening and by depressing the key portion towards the bottom of its opening to cause the cylindrical holder to tilt forwardly out of its opening to expose the lipstick substance contained therein.
3. A lipstick display and sample cabinet, as claimed in claim 2, in which the lower end wall of each opening in the front panel is slanted downwardly and towards the front to form a rest for the key portion in its depressed position to display the sample lipstick.
4. A lipstick display and sample cabinet, as claimed in claim 2, in which the enlarged por- Y tion of the lipstick holder has an inclined forward portion to abut the back of the back panel when the holder is depressed to limit tilting thereof to expose the cylindrical holder.
