3" Claims.
My-invention relates to an improvement in display devices which is particularly adaptablefor example for displayin small devices such as fountainpens, jewelry, or the like.
One purpose is the provision of a display device with a'ma-ximum and a directed illumination.
Another purpose is the provision of a display anddispensing device which may for example be put on a counter and in which the articlesdisplayed are housed within a transparent container.
lAnother purpose is the provision of such a display device in which the transparent container may readily be opened.
Other purposes will appear from time to time in the course of the specification and claims.
I illustrate my invention more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of my device;
Fig. 2 is a section on an enlarged scale on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; t
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a variant form of the device;
Fig. 5 is a section on an enlarged scale on the line 5--5 of Fig. 4; and
Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Like parts are indicated by like symbols throughout the specification and drawings.
Referring to the form of Figs. 1 to 3, I generally indicates a base, which may be supported on a counter or the like. It has upstanding end portions 2, 4. and a semi-cylindrical hollow body 3, which extends between the enlarged end portions 4 of the end members.
The end members or end walls 4 are provided with bearing means, for example the bearing pins 5, which support a display tray 6. The display tray may be provided with additional fastening means 1. whereby it may be held normally fixed, or, if desired, may be rotated, with the member 1 serving as a stop. As herein shown, however, it is fixed.
Also pivotally supported on the pins 5 is a transparent semi-cylindrical cover 8, having transparent end walls 9, through which the pins project. I0 is a stop limiting the rotary movement of the cylinder 8, 9. The stop is illustrated as having opposed edges I l and I2. When the cylinder is in closed position it is tilted over center and abuts against the surface II, and stays in position by gravity. When it is opened and moved over center, it rotates into the'dotted line position of Fig. 2, and one edge abuts against the opposite edge l2 of the stop, against whichstop the member 8 also remains by gravity.
The tray 6 may be formed in any suitable fashion, and on it the user may position articles l5, to be displayed'or dispensed.
Upwardly extending from the end members 2 are supports l4, herein shown as loops of wire, tubing, or the like, with the lower ends of the loop penetrating apertures in the members 2. It will be understood that the members [4' may be hollow and that any suitable wiring may be run inwardly therethrough to provide a more or less concealed conductive connection for any suitable lamp.
I3 is a light housing or deflector, in which any suitable light l3a may be mounted. The housing I3 is so formed that the light will be directed downwardly upon the tray 6, the light source being normally invisible to the eye of the observer, the light being concentrated upon the articles to be displayed.
It will be realized that any suitable reflector may be employed with the member l3, or it may be employed with a reflective inner surface. It will also be-understood that the form of the member l3 may be varied to provide any suitable reflective surface for concentrating or distributing the light on the articles displayed.
Referring to the form of the device shown in Figs. 4 to 6, I illustrate a generally flat base 20, which may rest upon the top of the counter, or the like. It is provided with end members 2i, which receive the ends of loop 22, which support a shade or deflector 23, similar to that shown at l3 .in Fig. 2. A rear wall 24 may be hinged. as at 25, to the rear edge of the [base 20, and may carry a transparent element 26, the lower edge of which conforms to the top face of the base 20. The member 26 may have transparent end walls 21, which similarly conform to the edge of the base 20.
28 is a display shelf, which may be fixed upon or be removably mounted on the base 20. The articles to be dispensed may be placed upon the shelf 28, or if desired, forwardly thereof. It will be understood that the shelfarrangement may be widely varied. and if desired the entire space within the transparent housing 26 may be em-- ployed for display. However, in the particular form of the device shown in Figs. 4 to 6, the light source 23a within the deflector or housing 23 will deliver a more or less concentrated light beam or light field upon the articlesin or on the tray 28.
It will be realized that, whereas I have described and illustrated a practical and operative device, nevertheless many changes may be made in the size, shape, number and disposition of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I therefore wish my description and drawings to be taken as in a broad sense illustrative or diagrammatic, rather than as limiting me to my precise showing.
I claim:
1. In a display device, a normally fixed base, display tray mean mounted on said base, a light shade mounted in general vertical alignment with said display traymeans, a light source in said shade, supporting means for said light shade located at the ends of the light shade and the base, said supporting means defining with the light shade a free space, and a transparent housing enclosing said display tray means and movably mounted on said base and extending into the free space defined by the light shade and'the end supports for the light shade, and movable intoand out of enclosing position without contacting said light shade, said transparent housing being formed entirely of transparent material.
2. In a display device, a normally fixed base, display tray means mounted on said base, a light shade mounted in general vertical alignment with said display tray means, a light source in said shade, supporting means for said light shade located at the ends of the light shade and the base, said supporting means defining with the light shade afree space, and a transparent housing enclosing said display tray means and movably mounted on said base and extending into the free space defined by the light shade and the end supports for the light shade, and movable into and out of enclosing position without contacting said light shade, said transparent housing including transparent end portions, and a transparent body portion, the edges of which abut against each other to form a completely transparent housing.
3. In a display device, a base, a display means on said base, a light shade mounted on said base, in general vertical alignment with said display means, a light source within said shade and a transparent housing enclosing said display means and movably mounted on said base and located, when in enclosing position, between said light shade and source and said display means and being movable into and out of enclosing position without contacting said light shade and light source, said transparent housing having a longitudinally extending transparent. top portion and transparent end elements closing the ends of said longitudinally extending transparent top portion, the edge of the transparent end elements abutting against the ends of the transparent top portion.
