UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMROY B. SMITH, OF GAINESVILLE, TEXAS.
SPRING-SEAT FOR VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,819, dated December 21, 1880.
Application filed October 30, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern u Be it known that I, AMROY B. SMITH, of Gainesville, in the county of Cooke and State of Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Draw-Spiral-Spring Riding- Seats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of thedrawings is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the opposite side of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is across-section of the same.
This invention relates to springseats for vehicles.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings, A is a frame, consisting of a top bar, a, side bars, b b, and bottom bar, 0, the top bar being at right angles to the side bars, and the bottom bar extendin g beyond said side bars at bb. B is anotherframe, consisting of a top bar, 01, and side bars, 0 c, said top bar extending beyond the side bars at e e the same distance that bar 0 extends beyond bars b b. From the top of bar 01 extend two loops, ff, on a line with side bars, 0 c, said side bars having lugs h 71 at the bottom.
In putting these frames together the side bars, Z1 1), of frame A are held to side bars, cc, of frame B by loops ll, but free to move there- In.
Spiral springs G C are connected from bar (1 to bar 0, their number and strength being regulated by the weight to be carried.
In use the loopsff are to be hung over the side-boards of a wagon, and the seat to be placed upon the top bars, a, there being one of these combined spring-frames on each side of the wagon.
In use one or more of the springs may be unfastened at one end when a light load is to be carried above them. The springs operate by extension or are draw spiral springs.
What I claim is 1. As a means of attaching seats to vehicles, two frames, one connected to the body,
the other to the seat, the upper bar of one and the lower bar of the other being connected ,by draw spiral springs, and the side bars of one sliding in loops upon the side bars of the other, all constructed as described.
2. The combination of frame A, having top bar, a, side bars, 12 1), bottom bar, 0, and frame B, having top bar, d, and side bars, 0 c, said frame having loops 1, surrounding the side bars, I) b, in combination with the springs 0, extending from bar d to bar 0.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
AMROY B. SMITH.
