Description

(No Model.)
J. JEITHIAN.
Dish Drainer No. 233.340. Patented Oct. 19,1880.
(9M /Wm @M,
N-PEYERS. PMOTGLITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D. C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOANNA FITHIAN, OF KN IGHCES TOWN INDIANA.
DISH-DRAINER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,340, dated October 19, 1880.
Application filed July 6, 1880. (N 0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOANNA FITHIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knightstown, in the county of Henry and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Dish- Drainer, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved dishdrainer in which an inclined grooved base is provided with a skeleton frame-work or rack and a perforated center bar; and the object of my improvement is to provide a device for holding and supporting dishes of various kinds, also knives, forks, spoons, 850., during the act of draining and drying them.
This object I accomplish by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the entire device, and Fig. 2 is a top or plan View of the same.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A represents a base, made from wood or metal, having several inclined grooves, B B B, in its upper surface, extending from end to end of the base, as in Fig. 1, or from a point near the upper end of the base to the extreme lower end, as shown in Fig. 2. Said grooves may all extend to the end of the base, as at B, or the grooves B B B may all unite into one groove near the end of the base A, and thus conduct off the water at the end by a single groove, if desired.
The base A is raised at its rear end by the block or rib K, to facilitate the drainage.
Above the base A is arranged a skeleton frame-work, consisting of the flaring uprights O, the upper side rails, D D, the end rails, F, and the central perforated rack rail, E, as shown.
The uprights O 0 may be united together between the base A and top rails, D, by the tie-rails L, as shown in Fig. 2, if desired.
The spaces between the central rail, E, and side rails, D D, are employed to hold dishes of various kinds, such as plates, saucers, cups, 850., as shown at H I, Fig. 1.
The plates and saucers H are set diagonally across the spaces with their lower edges resting on the base A, across the grooves B B, thus permitting the water to drain oif freely. T116 cups I rest between the rails E and D, also in an inclined position, to facilitate drainage.
The central rail, E, is perforated with a series of slots or holes, G, for receiving and holding knives, forks, spoons, &c., which also allows the water to drain off. All the water thus drained from the dishes is collected in the grooves B B B of the base A, and runs off at the end in the direction of the arrows aa a into any suitable receptacle placed below the end of the drains.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device for holding and draining dishes, knives, forks, spoons, 850., consisting of the inclined base A, having grooves B B B in its uppersurface, the flaring standards 0, the top rails, D D, the end rails, F, and central rail, E, perforated with holes G, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
In testimony WhereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J OAN N A FITH I AN.
