`UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HEZEKAH G. UFFORD, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
ADJUSTABLE FORM FOR GARMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,173, dated October 12, 1880.
Application filed June 19, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom @t may concern:
Be it known that I, HEZEKIAH G. UEEoED, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State oi' Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Forms for Ladies7 Garments, of which the following is a specification.
The object ot' my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and convenient adj nstable form for exhibiting ladies7 dresses and other garments in such a manner that a single form may be so adjusted, expanded, or contracted throughout its entire length from top to bottom as to fit within any desired size of aladys dress, so as to show the style of drapery, the liow ofthe skirts, and the size, style, cut, and make of the waist of the same as readily as if it were placed upon a. human being; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts forming the wire skeleton-i'raine, as hereinafter more fully described and set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view ot' a frame constructed according to my invention. Fig. 21s a similarview ofthe interior standard and adjusting parts removed.
A represents the base ot' the frame, into which 1s secured the vertical tube B, having a set-screw, C, near its upper end, so as to retain the adjustable vertical rod or upright support D in an elevated position, as may be desired. Fitted upon this support D is a short vertical tube, E, having right-angled or horizontal tubes F F', provided with set-screws G G', so as to retain the side support-rods, H H', the lower ends of which are bent at right angles so as to fit Within the outer ends of the horizontal tubes F, so as to allow of horizontal adjustment of the wire skeleton-forms L L', to which the upper ends ot the support-rods H H are secured, as shown.
It will be seen that these wire skeleton-forms L L' are completely separated from top to bottom, or vertically, forming right and left halves, L L', and are provided at their top or neck portions, I1', with horizontal adjusting loops or slots J J', and are held in the desired position horizontally by means of the thumb-nut or screw-knob K, which tits a screw-thread upon the upper end of the vertical support-rod D, over which the loops or slots J ofthe skeletonframe L L are passed, the bottom or lower portion ot said wire skeleton-form frames being provided with similar adjusting loops or slots P P', and aser-screw, T. and slides 1t R. These bottom loops or slots,P P', pass or slide horizontally upon the vertical tube B, as shown.
Thus it will be seen that the skeleton-form composed of the two wire frames L L' is adjustable horizontally, so as to permit the diameter ot the form to be enlarged or reduced at pleasure, and secured at such size against movement temporarily at either the neck or bust, waist, or bottoni skirt portion, and that the whole may be lowered or raised as occasion may require, or revolved about the central support or standard, which diametrical adjustment is a distinguishing and essential feature ot' my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- In combination with the adjustable standard B D, the adjustable skeleton-frames L L' divided longitudinallyfrom top to bottom. and provided with the adjusting-loops J J P P', the screw-knob K, and having the tubes E F F', support-rods H H', set-screws G G', and slides lt It, provided with the set-screw T, all being constructed substantially as shown and described, as and for the purposes set forth.
HEZEKIAH G. UFFORD.
