Description
A. H. HUGUET. Look Hinge.
- No. 232,128. Patente d Se t. 14,1880.
".FETERS, FHOTOYLITHDGRAPNER. WASHINGTON D 0 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH H. HUGUET, OF BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA.
LOCK-HINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,128, dated September 14, 1880.
Application filed August 19, 1379.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH H. HUGUET, a resident of the city of Baton Rouge, parish of East Baton Rouge, and State of Louisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Combination Hinge and Look; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification.
This invention is designed as an improvement on that class of blind-hinges shown in Letters Patent dated June 14, 1870, No. 104,359; and the improvement consists in a flanged leaf provided with a recess at the junction of the leaf and flange, and a sliding bolt working in a transverse groove, in combination with a similar flanged leaf provided with a knuckle to work in the recess of the opposite leaf and having a fiat face or shoulder and a groove for the sliding bolt in the closed and opened positions, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent the same as applied to a frame and shutter, the latter shown as partially opened in the first figure, and as opened to its full limit in the second figure. Perspective views of the hinge, with sections disconnected, are represented in Fig. 3.
The sections or parts A B are each provided with a rear projection, as at(] O, the said pro jections furnished with one or more countersunk holes, in order that they may be secured in position by additional screws passing at right angles into the frame or shutter, as shown.
The invention consists in providing one seetion say Bwith a notched projection or knuckle, D, which is constructed on a line with the eye of the section and about midway between the ends thereof. On a level with the aforesaid projection D the opposite section,A, is recessed, as at b, to permit of the said projection operating therein. This section A is also provided across its face with a horizontal recess, E, in which is fitted a sliding plate or bolt, F, by means of which the hinge is locked in any given position.
To facilitate the movingof lhe bolt it is furnished with a button or stud, a, which, when the hinge is closed, rests in a hole, f, that is made in the section B to receive the same, and prevents the opening of the shutter, even though the outer portion of the hinge be broken.
In order to guard against the bolt being accidentally or willfully withdrawn from its recess, the latter may have a horizontal slot made in the same, as shown in dotted lines at m, and
the stud a be screwed through the said bolt' until its point shall enter the aforesaid slot, and thus limit its movement.
It will be observed by reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings that the shutter is retained in an opened position by the sliding bolt F resting in the vertical groove h of the knuckle, and in Fig. 2 that the shutter is opened, in which position it is kept by the sliding bolt resting against the outer flat face, m, of the knuckle.
By this construction of a hinge ot' the class described I am enabled to simplify the parts and cheapen the manufacture.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, hereinbefore described, of the leaves A and B, of the same thickness, adapted to be fastened to the edge and face of the jamb, the former grooved transversely at E, and provided with the recesses b and sliding bolt F, and the latter provided with the knuckle D, with fiat face m, and vertical groove, as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
A. H. HUGUET.
In presence of- LoUIs BOHNS'IEDT, W. S. PIKE.
