This invention relates to hangers or hooks, and more particularly to hangers for supporting or hanging shower curtains or the like.
An object of the invention is to provide an attractive, neat appearing, practical hanger for shower curtains which is made of a plastic material, thereby embodying the distinctive advantages over the metal types of hooks or hangers now in use in that it may be attractively colored to blend with any color scheme ,in a bath room.
will not rust and consequently soil the shower curtain, and will provide an attractive appearing means for supporting the shower curtain.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a shower curtain hook embodying means for reducing the frictional engagement between the hanger and its supporting rod to a minimum and permitting free movement of the hanger along the rod for curtain adjustment.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a shower curtain hook, so designed that the front or outer edge provides an unbroken line, enhancing the appearance of the hanger when in use, and embodying an attractive tear drop extension or pendant, which latter covers and hides the metal grommet or eyelet in the curtain suspended thereby.
The tear drop pendant also serves as a carrier or support for the curtain engaging hook, which hook has a gradual downward inclination towards its point of conjunction with the pendant, thus insuring that the grommet or eyelet in the shower curtain hangs snugly against the back of the pendant.
A further object of the present invention isto provide a shower curtain hanger or hook which embodies the rod engaging hook and the shower curtain engaging hook. arranged to support the curta n from the curtain rod in graceful, hanging, unbroken folds, and which hooks are arranged relative to each other to provide an unobstructed area for accommodation of high fr nges on curtains, above the grommets, without bending, folding or crumpling such fringe.
With these andother objects in view, as may appear from the accompanying specification, the invention consists of various features of construction and combination of parts, which will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawing, showing a curtain hanger of the preferred form embodying the invention, and the features forming the invention will be specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an edge elevation of a plurality of hangers, showing them in use.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the hanger.
Figure 3 is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an edge elevation of the back edge of the hanger.
Referring more particularly t the drawing, the improved hanger for shower curtains or the like is preferably made of a plastic which is semielastic, so that the rod engaging hook I of the hanger may be bent side-wise to permit mounting upon the curtain supporting rod, as shown at A. The hook I is inverted, and decreases in cross-sectional area toward its rear end, while on its front'or forward end a pendant 2 is formed.
The pendant 2 is, in front elevation, of tear drop" design and shape and, as will be particularly noted by reference to Figure 1 of the drawing, the front edge of the hanger, when in use, presents an unbroken, attractive appearance.
A curtain engaging hook 3 is formed upon the inner or rear side of the tear drop" pendant 2, and projects laterally therefrom, extending outwardly and upwardly from its point of connection with the pendant, and from its outer free end to its point of conjunction with the pendant continuously inclining downwardly, so that the grommet or eyelet B of the shower curtain C will rest snugly against the inner side of the pendant 2.
The mouth or opening of the curtain engaging hook 3 faces, and is substantially in line with the mouth i of the inverted rod engaging hook-i, to provide an open, unobstructed area from the hook 3 upwardly into the inverted rod engaging hook i for permitting the portion of the shower curtain C above the grommet B to extend upwardly without folding, bending or creasing.
, The distance between the hook 3 and the interior of the hook l is such as to accommodate relatively high fringes on the tops of shower curtains hung thereon.
Owing to the fact that the hook is made of plastic, considerable friction would ordinarily be developed between the inner edge of the inverted [extending inwardly from its inner edg 'vide substantially point-to-point contacts bein shape, providing rounding, convex surfaces for engagement with the curved surface of the rod A, thusproviding point contacts which will reduce the friction between the hangers and the rod to a minimum.
It will be understood that the invention isnot to be'limited to the specific construction or arrangement of parts shown, but that they may supporting rod, said inverted hook having a plurality of projections formed integrally with and e to protween the hook and a supporting rod. 7
2. As a new article of manufacture, a hanger for curtains formed of semi-elastic material and having an inverted hook for engagement over a supporting rod, said inverted hook having a plurality of approximately spherical projections,
formed integrally with and extending inwardly from its inner edge for engagement with the curved surface of a supporting rod to provide V friction reducing contacts between the hook and a supporting rod. r
3. Asa new article of manufacture, a hanger for curtains formed of semi-elastic material and having an inverted hook for engagement over a supporting rod, a substantially flat relatively wide grommet covering pendant formed on the lower end of said hook, a curtain engaging hook pro- 4. As a new article of manufacture, a hanger for curtains formed of a single piece of semi-elastic material and including an inverted hook for engagement over a supporting rod, an approximately flat grommet covering pendant formed integrally with said hook and depending from the lower end thereof, and a curtain engaging hook projecting laterally from one side of said pendant across the mouth of said inverted hook and having a cross-sectional area considerably less than the width of said pendant.
5, .As a new article of manufacture, a hanger for curtains formed of a single piece of semi-elastic material and including an inverted hook for engagement over a supporting rod, an approximately flat grommet covering pendant formed integrally with said hook and depending from the lower end thereof, and a curtain engaging hook projecting laterally from one side of said pendant across the mouth of said inverted hook and having a cross-sectional area considerably less than the width of said pendant, said inverted hook having a plurality of projections formed integrally with and extending inwardly from its inner edge to provide-substantially point-to-point contacts between the hook and a supporting rod.
6. As a new articleof manufacture, a hanger for curtains formed of a single piece of semielastic material and including an inverted hook for engagement over a supporting rod, an approximately flat grommet covering pendant formed integrally with said hook and depending from the lower end of the hook, said pendant at its junction with said inverted hook being of a width equal to the thickness of the hook and increasing in width for a predetermined distance as it extends away from the hook to provide a substantially fiat grommet covering body, and a curtain engaging hook projecting laterally from one side of said pendant across the mouth of said inverted hook and having a cross-sectional area considerably less than the width of said pendant.
