Patented Nov. 24, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE wlNnow CONSTRUCTION James M. Bates, Fort Myers, Fla. Application-April 1, 1941, serial No. 386,345
(cl. 16o-27o) 4 Claims.
The present invention relates to new anduseful improvements in the construction of windows for buildings and the like, and has particular reference to the provision of supporting and attaching means for a metal channel guide for the edge of a Venetian blind or window 'shade and shade stick and for adjustably securing a corner bead in position at the corner of the window to prevent injury to the plaster.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a supporting attachment of this character by means of which the channel Venetian blind or Window shade guide may be secured in an adjusted position along the inner edge of the window jamb and in which provision is also made for the adjustment of the corner bead to properly position the same for receiving the plaster.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efcient and reliable in performance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and install in position on the window jamb and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to th'e accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a window with one side of the wall structure adjacent the window shown in section, y
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on a line 2--2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on a, line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a detail showing the adjustable support for the corner bead,
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the adjustable Support.
Figure 6 is a similar view of the attaching bracket for the corner bead, and
Figure 7 is a fragmentary sectional view through the attaching bracket for the comer bead and the support therefor.
Referring vnow to the drawings in detail,
wherein for the purpose of illustration I havek disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a window sash preferably constructed of metal, while the numeral 6 designates the metal frame to which the sash is secured, the frame being recessed in the plaster 1v forming the window opening 8. The .:resent window construction is shown adapted particularly for use on hollow tile walls 9 having the wood furring strips I to which the metal lath II and plaster 1 are suitably secured in a manner well-known in the art.
. At the corner of the window opening is arranged a plurality of vertically spaced L-shaped anchoring brackets I2 including right angularly disposed portions I3 and Il positioned horizontally at the corner of the window opening, the end portion I3 extending inwardly with respect to the surface of th'e wall of the building. The end portion I4 is provided with a horizontally extending slotted opening I for receiving screws or the like I 6 in order to secure the bracket in position to the furringstrip III. The end portion I3 is also provided with a, horizontally extending slotted opening I1 and the longitudinal edge portions of the end I3 are formed with inturned flanges I8.
A vertically extending channel guide I9 is secured to the end portion I3 by means of a bolt and nut which is adjustably positioned inthe slotted opening I1. The opposed faces of the channel I 9, adjacent the outer end thereof is formed with a beading construction 2l providing a restricted opening in the channel, the channel being used as a guide forthe edge of a. window shade, as well as the shade stick carried thereby to prevent flapping ofthe shade.
A second horizontally extending slotted opening 22 is formed in the end portion I4 of the bracket I2 and adapted to receive a nut and bolt 23 which is also inserted in .a horizontally extending slotted opening 24 formed in an L-shaped corner bead attaching bracket 25.
The bracket 25 likewise includes end portions 26 and 21 disposed at right angles to each other and the longitudinal edges and free end of the end portion 28 are formed with inwardly extending flanges 28 which abut the surface of the end portion I3 of the bracket I2.
-A horizontally extending slotted opening 29 is formed in the end portion 26 for adjustably receiving a bolt and nut 30 in order to secure a metal strip 3I-thereto, the strip extending diagonally from the bracket and provided at its outer edge with a comer bead 32 for positioning at the corner of the window to protect th'e plaster.
Accordingly, the shade guide channel may be adjusted with respect to the window frame and the corner bead may also be adjusted to the readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation,
What I claim is:
1. In a window construction, a vertically extending shade guide channel at a side o! the window opening and a plurality of L-shaped anchoring brackets for the channel secured in horizontal position in vertically spaced arrangement to a corner supporting structure adjacent the window opening.
2. In a window construction, a vertically extending shade guide channel at a side oi the window opening, a plurality of anchoring brackets secured in vertically spaced arrangement to supporting structure adjacent the window opening, said brackets having horizontally extending slots and means received in the slots for securing the channel in horizontally adjusted position to the brackets.
3. In a window construction, a vertically extending shade guide channel at a side oi' the window opening, a plurality oi horizontally disposed L-shaped anchoring brackets having longitudinally extending slots in each end portion thereof, means received in one of the slots for securingthe brackets in vertically spaced relation i to supporting structure at the corner o! the window opening, and means adjustably carried in the other of said slots for securing the channel there- 4. In a window construction, a vertically extending shade guide channel at a side of the window opening, a horizontally disposed L-shaped anchoring bracket having longitudinally extending slots in each end portion thereof, one end of the bracket being of U-shape in cross-section to form a channel in the inner face o1 said end of the bracket, means received in the opening of said one end of the bracket and projecting into the channel on the inner face o! the bracket for securing the guide channel theretoand means received in the other slot of the bracket for aecuring the bracket to supporting structure at the corner of the window opening.
