Description

(No Model.)
A. s; HENN. Snap Hook.
No, 229,885. Patented July13,188 0.
JWM M form shown in Fig. 1.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED S. HENN, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
SNAP-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,885, dated July 13, 1880.
Application filed April 21, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED S. HENN, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Snap-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to snap-hooks; and the improvements consist in making the front ends of both body and tongue curved and overlapping each other, and so that a cross-section of the overlapping ends shall approacha semicircle in form; also, in making a transverse semicircular and curved groove in both the body and tongue to inclose the springs, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the drawings, which I hereby make a part of the specification, Figure 1 is a view of the hook, partly in section, showing the space occopied by the spring. Fig. 2 1s a view of the body, and Fig. 3 a view of the tongue of the hook, reversed in respect to the body, as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross section in the direction of the broken line 00 x in Fig. 1, showing the spring in position.
To enable others to make and use my improved hook, I will describe it in detail.
The body A has its front end made in the Near the loop a transverse curved and semicircular groove, a, is formed, extending nearly across the hook. At the end of the groove the rest m is formed and projects, the projection being semicircular in form to fit into the groove in the tongue.
The tongue B has its front end made as (No model.)
semicircular in form to tit the groove in the 1 body of the hook.
The spiral springCis incloscd in the grooves in the body and tongue, one end coming against the rest m and the other against the rest n.
Havi ngdescribed myinvention, what l'claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The improved snap-hook herein described, consisting, essentially, of the body A, having its front end overlapping the front end of the tongue, also having the transverse semicircular and curved groove a, made in a plane parallel with the plane of the loop and rest m, of the tongue B, having its front end overlapping the front end of the body of the hook, also having the transverse semicircular and curved groove I), made in a plane parallel with the'plane of the loop and rest 11,, and of the spiral spring C, iuclosed in the grooves a and b between the rests m and n, and arranged in the same plane with the loop, the front overlapping ends beiug formed as shown, substantially as set forth.
ALFRED S. HENN. Witnesses:
