This invention relates to trousers and more particularly to a waist band construction therefor, and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which will combine both elasticity and adjustability to the waist band, whereby the trousers may be conveniently adjusted as to size in the waist band and will have desirable give thereto and which will permit the wearer to have freedom of movement at the waistline, at the same time .such device being entirely concealed.

With these and other objects in View which will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter mo-re fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevation illustrating trousers with a waist band constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view illustrating the adjusting and elastic means for the waist band construction.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a pair of trousers and 5 the waist band thereof. The waist band at opposite sides is provided with comparatively long belt tunnels 'l through which a belt 8 extends. The waist band is further provided with belt straps 9.

Secured within the tunnels 1 to the waist band 6 are elastic straps l0 to which are secured tabs Il. The tabs Il are adjustably secured to the waist band by separable fasteners I2. The arrangement of the separable fasteners I2 and the elastic straps and their tabs I I provide a construction which will permit the waist band 6 to be easily adjusted as to size besides providing to the waist band elasticity whereby the waist band will readily give with the movements of the waist of the wearer rendering the trousers extremely comfortable and neat appearing on the wearer. As shown more particularly in Figures 2 and 3 a portion of the waistband in each tunnel is eut away and one end of a portion of the waistband enters the tunnel and is connected to the inner Wall of the tunnel while the elastic strap Il! is connected to the other end of the waistband withnel 1 and the adjacent end of the waistband is connected to the elastic strap IIJ which carries the tab I I and this tab is adjustably connected by the snap fasteners to the first-mentioned end portion of the waistband. Then when the belt 8 is put in place it passes through the outer portion of the tunnel member so that the exposed male member of the outer snap fastener is covered by the belt.

It is to be understood that this present invention when adapted to trousers or the waist band thereof will be completely concealed from view so as not to change or affect the ordinary appearance of the trousers.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. In a garment, an elongated tunnel formingV member secured to one side of the garment to extend lengthwise along the waist line of said garment, a divided waist band having ends extending into opposite ends of said member, respectively, one end of the waist band being fixed to said member adjacent one end of the latter, female snap fastener parts spaced along the fixed end of said waist band, an elastic band fastened at one end to the other end of said waist band and housed in said member, and a tab fastened to the other end of said elastic band and provided with a male snap fastener part for securing to said female fastener parts selectively to thereby variably tension the elastic band and Y yieldingly shorten the length of the waist band.
