FIGUREZ Patented Aug. 18, 1942 UNITED STATES ATENT QFEICE INFANTS AND CHILDS TOILET Lena M. Russell, Johnson County, Kans.
Application November 24, 1939, Serial No. 305,922
7 Claims.
This invention relates to improvement in an infants and childs toilet and more particularly to a combination of elements that can accommodate an infant or child in a reclining position.
An object of the present invention is to provide a framework with a cloth or other suitable covering of rubber, wood or metal and the like stretched thereover capable of supporting an infant in a reclining position, and a toilet chamber supported by the covering and with the assistance of the framework.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a transparent toilet chamber in combination with the above mentioned frame and covering whereby the urine and refuse may be be seen in the chamber while the infant is resting thereon. This is an important advantage as infants cannot usually 4be touched or disturbed Without desiring to be taken into the mothers or nurses arms. If the infant should be disturbed to see what is in the chamber it is liable to become fretful and defeat the purpose of a training chamber. Furthermore it is very desirable to know when the infants kidneys and bowels have moved so that the infant can be removed from the covering and chamber as quickly as possible thereby quickly training the infant to recognize the object of the training chamber.
Another object of the present invention is to provide threaded inserts in the toilet frame to receive the adjusting and assembling screws and in combination with dcwel-pins whereby the various parts of the frame may be easily and quickly assembled or taken apart.
With the above mentioned and other objects in View the invention further consists in the combination of various elements illustrated in the drawing, described in the specification, and more fully pointed out in the appended claims and any claims that may be added by amendments thereto.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the infants toilet.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary enlarged view illustrating the threaded inserts to receive the assembly screws.
The toilet frame sides B used for the reclining position of an infant as shown in Figure 2 rests on the small rounded edge 1 and the angle shaped bracket foot 8 secured between the sides 6 by screws 9 and threaded inserts I0. The top of the frame II is straight and smooth with rounded corners to receive the covering I2, the
ends I3 and I4 of the covering being tightly drawn on the side frames.
An inclined support I5 is spaced between the side frames and secured thereto by dowel-pins i6 and screws I'I. The screws I1 pass into the inclined support and secured therein by the threaded inserts IB. The covering I2 is also stretched over the inclined support I5 and has an opening I9 in the lower portion of the covering to allow visibility of the lower portion of the transparent chamber 2D, the bottom of the chamber resting against the covering and support, the lower corner of the chamber protruding through the opening of the covering, and a portion of the ange 2i of the chamber resting on the sagging portion of the covering between the side frames. Two straps 22 are secured to each side of the covering and extend to the Center of the cover with sufficient additional length to provide a method for tying the infant on the cover.
The cross member 24 assists in making the frame rigid and is held in place by doWel-pin positions 25.
The transparent chamber shows the urine and refuse, the frames 6 having open places therein for visibly detecting the contents of the chamber. Hand holes 37 and 38 are located conveniently to allow the side frames to be lifted with all equipment intact.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An infants reclining toilet having in combination side frames, an angle shaped rest spacing said side frames located at one end thereof, an inclined support spacing said side frames at the opposite end thereof, said angle shaped rest being higher than said inclined rest to cause said side frames to slope downwardly from the angle rest end to the inclined rest end, a reclining cover, said cover being supported on said side frames and inclined support to cover the space therebetween, a chamber, and said chamber being supported on said cover located against said inclined rest support.
2. An infants reclining toilet having in combination side frames, an angle shaped rest therebetween located at one end thereof, an inclined support between said side frames at the opposite end thereof, a cover, said cover being supported on said side frames and inclined support to cover the space therebetween, tie straps secured to said cover, a chamber, and said chamber resting on said cover located against said inclined support.
3. An infants reclining toilet the combination of side frames, an angle shaped rest, said angle shaped rest spacing said side frames located at one end thereof, an inclined support, said inclined support spacing said side frames at the opposite end thereof, said angle shaped rest being higher than said inclined rest to causel said side frames to slope downwardly from the angle rest end to the inclined rest end, a cover, said cover being supported on said side frames and inclined support to cover the space therebetween, said cover having a trough shape with one end thereof substantially closed, said cover having an opening near said inclined support, and a chamber resting on said cover over said opening with the bottom of said chamber resting against said inclined support.
4. In an infants toilet the combination of side frames, said side frames having open slots therein for the purpose of gripping with hands, a rest between said side frames located at one end thereof, an inclined support between said. side frames at the opposite end thereof, said rest being higher than said inclined support to cause said side frames to slope downwardly from said rst rest to said inclined support, a cover, said cover being supported over said side frames and inclined support to cover the space therebetween, a transparent chamber, and said transparent said side frames by means of screws and said inserts, a covering being drawn over said side frames and inclined support to cover the space therebetween, and a chamber being supported on said cloth covering located against said inclined support.
6. An infants reclining toilet having in combination a reclining trough shaped cover with the lower end thereof substantially closed, a chamber, and said reclining trough shaped cover with its closed end supporting the bottom portion of said chamber. f
7. An infants reclining toilet having in combination a trough shaped cover with the lower end thereof substantial-ly closed, said cover hav; ing an opening at the bottom of said substantially closed end, a chamber, and said cover sup.. porting said chamber with the lower portion of said chamber protruding through said opening in said cover for visible inspection.
