Description
J GUMMINS.
(ModeL) Barrel Swing;
No. 229,306. Patented June 29,1880.
ZIZMZIZZOI':
NJEI'ERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D O.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES OUMMINS, OF CALIFORNIA, MISSOURI.
BARREL-SWING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,306, dated June 29, 1880.
' Application filed April26, 1880. Moder To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JAMES OUMMINS, of California, in the county of Moniteau and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Barrel Swings or Holders; and I do hereby declare that tlie followin g is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, rwt ich will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure lis a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention relates to an improved device for adjusting boxes and barrels from which goods are sold in grocery and other stores in such a manner that while not in use such boxes or barrels may be swung under the counter, so as to be out of the way, substantially as I shall now proceed more fully to describe with reference to the drawings, in which A represents the floor; B, the counter, and O the top of the latter.
Upon the floor and upon the underside of the top of the counter are secured caps I) D, having bearings for the crank-shafts E and F. The former of these, which is journaled in the cap upon the floor, is provided at its other end with a tooth, G. Thelatter, F, is provided with a downward-projecting arm, H, having a slot, I, for the adjustment of a sliding clamp, L, with a bolt and nut, J K.
In the annexed drawings 1 have shown the device employed for the adjustment of a barrel, which is denoted by the letter M.
In operation, the lower edge of the barrel is adjusted upon the tooth G. The bolt J is then passed through the slot I, and also through the sliding clamp L, and secured by the nut K, and the lower and open end of the sliding clamp L is then shoved down inside of the up per chine of the barrel, and it is thus held firmly in position in such a manner as-to be capable of being swung in under the counter with perfect ease,or out, so as to leave its con tents exposed for convenient removal.
It is obvious that this device, instead of being arranged under the counter, may be adjusted under any suitable shelf. Owing to its construction, as described, with the slotted arm H, it may be adapted with equal facility to large or small boxes or barrels.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentof the United States- The herein-described improved dlevice for swinging boxes and barrels, which consists of the caps D D, crank-shaft E, having stud or tooth Gr, and crank shaft F, having slotted arm H and having sliding clamp L, with bolt and nut J K, all combined and operating substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES OUMMINS. Witnesses:
MILEs ALLEE, WILLIAM JASPER FULKs.
