BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,214, dated June 22, 1880. Application filed April 30, 1880. N. model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SHELDEN L. WARREN, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of referen ce marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of avertical section of 1n y bottle-stopper. Fig. 2 isan end view of the same.
My invention relates to hollow wooden stoppers for bottles; and it consists in arranging a thin disk or button within the hollow stopper and against the inner side of its solid end, as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, A designates a hollo wooden stopper, in the upper end of which is fitted a thin disk or button, B, which may be made of wood, cork, or other suitable material.
If this core were not used, the liquid within a bottle corked by this stopper would, if the bottle were laid upon its side, follow the grain of the wood at the top a of the stopper, and hence evaporate. This is however prevented by the button. As this button is inclosed within the stopper, it is consequently protected from displacement by knocks or jars.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the wooden bottle-stopper A, having a central bore extending a portion of its length, with the independent button B, arranged within the stopper against the inner side of its solid end, as herein shown, and for the purpose specified.
