1 Claim.

The invention relates generally to the art of packaging products for marketing purposes and has for an object to provide a simple and inexpensively constructed container for face powder or the like wherein provision is made for assuring against sifting out of the powder prior to the breaking of the package by the consumer.

In its more detailed nature, the invention resides in the provision of a container of the nature stated comprising a generally cylindrical body or drum preferably formed of paper or the like which is closed at one end by a Cellophane or similar transparent covering and has its other end turned outwardly to. form a base flange, a flat bottom plate bent back upon itself over the base flange and which is indented into the base flange to prevent sifting of contained powder, and a slip over cover fitted snugly over the body and of a depth permitting the insertion of a powder puff or dabbing pad between it and the Cellophane covering.

With the above and other objects in view that will hereinafter appear, the nature of the invention will be more fully understood by following the detailed description, the appended claim, and the several views illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing:

Figure 1 is a central vertical cross section illustrating the base and body portions of the container in separated relation.

Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary section showing the base plate clamped in powder securing relation on the container body.

Figure 3 is a central vertical section through the complete container.

In the practical development of the invention there is provided a generally cylindrical body or drum 5 preferably formed of paper or other of the container is completed by a flat base plate H) which is turned inwardly or back upon itself as at H to form a clamping flange 12, the internal'dlameter of which is but slightly larger than the external diameter of the drum 5 and which terminates in an inwardly turned portion or biting edge 13.

In Figure 1 of the drawing the parts comprising the main body or powder enclosing portion of the container are shown in separated relation, and it will be noted that in the normal relation of the parts, before assembly, the outer extremity of the flange 6 is sufliciently small to enable insertion thereof through the edge portion l3.

In commercial use of the containers, the powder I 4 is filled into the open upper end of the container body, as viewed in Figure 1 of the drawing, and thereafter the bottom plate ID is dropped over the flange 6 and the flange i2 clamped, from the condition illustrated in Figure l, to the set condition illustrated in Figure 2. When the bottom closure plate is thus clamped in place, it will be noted that the edge portion i3 thereof bites into the yieldable material of the flange 6 so as to securely grip the flange and assure against sifting of powder out of the container at the juncture of the container body 5, 6 and the bottom closure l0, I2.

After the container has been thus filled, it is completed by the mounting of a slip cover l5 thereon in the manner illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing. The slip cover includes 9. depending flange l6 which snugly grips the body portion of the container and may terminate at its lower end in an outwardly turned beaded edge II.

It will be observed by reference to Figure 3 of the drawing that the cover skirt I6 is deeper than the body 5 in an amount sufficient to provide a space intervening the "Cellophane" closure 1 and the cover body l5, and this space is designed to hold a powder pull or dabbin pad l8.

It is of course to be understood that the details of structure and arrangement of parts may be variously changed and modified without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

I claim:

A container for face powder comprising a cylindrical flber body having an integral outwardly extending continuous flange disposed substantially at right angles to the body, a metal bottom member contacting with the lower face of said flange and extending beyond the outer edge thereof, said member being turned back onto the upper face of said flange and having the inner edge of said turned back portion bent downwardly and imbedded in the flange at the base thereof, a frangible closure member extending across and contacting with the upper end of the body, said frangible closure member having 9. depending flange extending downwardly on the outside of the fiber body and secured to said fiber body and a cover having a depending skirt adapted to slip down over the flange of the frangible closure member and contact with the turned back portion of said bottom member.
