This invention relates to the art of jewelry and more especially to finger rings.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide an article of jewelry such as, for example, a finger ring or bracelet with ornamental parts carried thereby and relatively movable thereon from a position in which said parts overlap to a position in which the parts are separated sufficiently to expose the overlapped area of one of said parts. For example, when the ornamental parts are in the form of simulated hands normally disposed in c-lasping relation, at least one of said hands is movable out of said clasping relation so that an inscription normally concealed by said movable hand-simulating part can be exposed to view for observation thereof, and in this connection an important feature of the invention resides in providing a construction whereby the parts are relatively movable circumferentially of the annular member of the ring or bracelet while on the wearers finger or Wrist as the casemay be so that it is unnecessary to remove the ring from the finger in order to observe said normally concealed inscription.

Another object of the invention is to provide the annular member and the relatively movable part with interengag-ing means for holding the movable part in proper position on the annular member and for guiding said movable part to and from its operative position in association with the companion part.

-A further object of the invention is to provide the hand-simulating part with means for releasably holding them in clasping relation.

Ayet-iurther object of the invention isgenerally to provide an improved article of the character described.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the article of jewelry here shown as a finger ring I!) comprises a peripherally continuous annular member i2 forming the shank of the ring and relatively movable parts i t and l 8 here shown as simulated hands carried by said annular member at the portion thereof which isnormally uppermost when the finger ring is on the wearers finger. As here shown said parts M and 16 are in the form of simulated hands, hand part M be-: ing disposed with the palm uppermost while hand part it is disposed with the back of the hand uppermost, said hand parts being disposed in hand-clasping relation in the normal position of said parts illustrated in Figs. 1, 4, 8 and 9. Thus, as shown, said parts I4 and I 6 have portions which extend radially beyond the outer periphery of annular member l2. Hand part It is intended to carry an inscription indicated at 18 in Fig. 2, said inscription being normally concealed by the overlapping portions of hand-simulating part it when the latter is in clasping relation with handsimulating part it, but as illustrated in Fig. 2 part M is movable to a retracted position sufficient to uncover the inscription 18 so that the latter can be observed, and by virtue of the construction presently to be described the movement of part I! can take place while-the ring is on the wearers finger. It will be noted that the circumferential extent of parts I4 and 16 is less than the periphery of the annular member l2.

As here shown hand-simulating partl-S is in fixed relation to annular member 2, while hand simulating part I4 is movable circumferentially of annular member l2, although it will be understood that this relation can be reversed so that part I4 is in fixed relation while part It is movable. Hand simulating part 14 has an end portion 23 thereof which engages the outer peripheral surface of annular member I 2 and which has opposite end portions 22 and 24 which slidably engage the opposite side edges 26 and 28, respectively, of said annular member. .A peripherally extending slot 36 is provided in annular member l2, and part 29 is provided with an inwardly extending portion 32 in integral or fixed relation therewith and projecting through. slot 30 in slidable engagement with the opposite Walls thereof for guiding part H3 in its movementtoward and away from companion part It. Part 32 terminates in an enlargement 34 which engages the inner surface of annular member 12 for holding part [4 in position on annular member 12 and for preventing substantial movement of said part radially of said annular member. Enlargement 34 is preferably sufiiciently wide so that the opposite side edges thereof slidably engage the adjacent side edges 36 in the grooved portion 38 formed in the upper part of the annular member. Thus part I4 is guided for movement circumferentially of annular member 12 by portions 22, 24, 32 and 34 of said part in engagement with the adjacent portions, respectively, of said annular member, the movement of said part l4 to the normally projected portion and to the retracted position illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, respectively, being limited by the length of slot 39. The annular member is also provided with a slot 30a in the part thereof adjacent the fixed part l6, for the purpose of symmetry of design, and it will be understood that said slot 30a can be omitted. It will also be understood that, if desired, part it can be movable on annular member 12 whether or not part 14 is movable thereon as just described, in which case the mounting of part It can be the same as the mounting of part Hi. In other words, either or both parts l4 and It can be movable, although the arrangement described above wherein part I6 is stationary and part It is movable is preferred.

Hand-simulating parts l4 and iii are provided with interengaging means for releasably securing the same in overlapping, simulated handolasping relation, illustrated in Figs. 1, 4, 8 and 9. For this purpose part I l is provided with a dot projection 40 which is releasably received with a snap action in a small recess 42 provided in the thumb portion 44 of part I6, and it will be noted that when the parts are in clasped relation thumb portion 44 of part H overlies part l l near the thumb portion 46 thereof. The portion 48 of part 16 near the wrist portion of the latter is raised somewhat above the palm portion, while the outer ends of the finger portions of part 14 are curved downwardly to engage the raised portion 18 when the two hand parts are in clasping relation whereby said parts are held firmly but releasably together.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it will be understood that the latter may be embodied otherwise than as herein specifically shown or described, and that in the illustrated embodiment certain changes in the details of construction and in the arrangement of parts may be made. Further, while the invention has been illustrated and specifically described in reference to a finger ring, it will be understood that said invention can be applied to other articles, especially bracelets. Also, it will be understood that the relatively movable parts carried by the annular member can be formed otherwise than as hand-simulating parts. As these and other changes and adaptations may be made and will occur to skilled artisans in view of the present disclosure, I do not wish to be limited to the construction herein shown or described except to the extent which may be required by the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried by said annular member externally to and adjacent the outer periphery thereof, one of said parts being movable on said outer periphery of the annular member in a direction circumferentially of said annular member toward and away from said other part while said annular member is in position on the wearer, said movable part having a circumferential extent less than that of said annular member.

2. An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried by said annular member externally to and adjacent the outer periphery thereof, one of said parts being movable on said outer periphery of the annular member in a direction circumferentially of said anular member toward and away from said other part while said annular member is in position on the wearer, said movable part having a circumferential extent less than that of said annular member, and interengaging means on said parts for holding them releasably in engagement with each other.

An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried by said annular member and having portions disposed externally of the outer periphery of said annular member radially of the latter, one of said parts being movable in a direction circumferentially of said annular member toward and away from said other part while said annular member is in position on the wearer, said portions being in overlapping relation in one of their relative positions, said one of the relatively movable parts and said annular member having interengaging portions for guiding said last mentioned part for said movement on the annular member circumferentially thereof toward and away from said other part.

An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried by said annular member, .both of said parts having portions disposed radially outwardly of the outer periphery of said annular member, one of said parts being movable in a direction circumferentially of said annular member toward and away from said other part, said parts being relatively movable from one position in which said portions are in overlapping relation to another position in which said portions are in spaced relation in a direction circumferentially of said annular member.

An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried by said annular member, both of said parts having portions disposed radially outwardly of the outer periphery of said annular member, one of said parts being movable on said outer periphery of the annular member in a direction circumferentially of said annular member toward and away from said other part, said parts being relatively movable from one position in which said portions are in overlapping relation to another position in which said portions are in spaced relation in a direction circumferentially of said annular member, said one of the relatively movable parts and said annular member having interengaging portions for guiding said last mentioned part for said movement on the annular member circumferentially thereof toward and away from said other part.

An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried by said annular member and having portions disposed externally of the outer periphery thereof, one of said parts being movable in a direction circumferentially of said annular member toward and away, from said other part, said parts being relatively movable from one position in which said portions are in overlapping relation to another position in which said portions are in spaced relation in a direction circumferentially of said annular member, and interengaging means on said parts for holding them releasably in engagement with each other in said overlapping relation.

An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, a part carried by said annular member in fixed relation thereto and having a portion disposed externally of said annular member in a radial sense, and a part slidable on said annular member circumierentially thereof and having a portion disposed externally of said annular member and movable toward and away from said portion of said fixed part.

8. An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, a first part carried by said annular member and having a portion disposed externally of the outer periphery thereof in a radial sense, and a second part slidable on said annular member circumferentially thereof toward and away from said said first part, said second part having a portion disposed externally of said annular member in a radial sense, said annular member having a circumferentially extending slot and said second part having a portion projecting into said slot and guided thereby. I

An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried ,by said annular member, one of said parts being slidable on said annular member circumferentially thereof toward and away from said other part, said one of the parts having portions thereof slidably engaging the outer and inner peripheral surfaces, respectively, of said annular member.

10. An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, relatively movable parts carried by said annular member and having portions extending radially beyond the outer periphery of said annular member one of said portions being slidable on said annular member circumferentially thereof toward and away from said portion of the other part.

11. An article of jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or the like comprising an annular member, a part carried by said annular member in fixed relation, a part slidable on said annular member circumferentially thereof toward and away from said fixed part, said movable part having portions thereof slidably engaging the outer and inner peripheral surfaces, respectively, of said annular member and opposite side portions thereof slidably engaging the opposite side edges, respectively, of said annular member.
