Description

June 9, 19.42. H. TAMAKI PULL TAB ATTACHMENT FOR GALOSHES Filed Jan. 5, 1942 H. Tarn aki Patented June 9, 1942 PULL TB ATTACHMENT FOR GALOSHES Hisahc Tamaki, Torontmntario, Canada Application January 5, 1942, Serial No. 425,599 In Canada February 26, 19M
6 Claims.
My invention appertains to improvements in galoshes and has for its object the provision of a pull tab device constructed and arranged to enable a galosh to be put on and taken off with facility and dispatch.
Women as a gen-eral rule encounter difficulty in putting on and removing galoshes, which is chief ly due to the binding that takes place between the back part of the galosh and the 1neel of the shoe. To overcome this difficulty I provide a loose piece of thin pliant material inside the back portion of the galosh disposed so as to extend downwardly from the top of the upper to which it is attached. 'I'he loose piece or strip has an inner face presenting a smooth surface which slides readily against the lining surface of the galosh, and has an outer rough face which frictionally contacts the heel of the shoe. In putting on the galosh, the loose piece or strip is manually raised by pulling up a tab near the top after the shoe is partly inserted with the heel thereof lightly engaging said strip. The shoe is then completely urged in in customary manner, which causes the loose strip to slide downwardly and thus enables the shoe to slip easily into place.
The attachment is cheap to manufacture and can be readily incorporated in conventional galoshes.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1
is a vertical longitudinal section of a galosh to f which the invention is applied. In this view the pull tab attachment is shown in its raised position and engaged by a partly inserted shoe indicated in dash lines.
Fig. 2 is a similar, but fragmentary, view of the galosh with the pull tab attachment in the normal position which it occupies when urged downwardly by an inserted shoe.
Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, giving a face View of the pull tab attachment. Y
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the pull tab attachment.
Like numerals of reference denote similar parts in each figure of the drawing.
In the drawing the reference numeral 5 generally denotes a conventional galosh of the class generally worn by women. In order to conform to the shape of the foot, the back 6 of the upper is sloped downwardly and outwardly to the point where it meets the hollow heel 1, which results in the formation of a pocket l' which sometimes leads to the shoe being pulled off the foot in attempting to remove the galosh.
The invention is carried out by arranging the pull tab attachment, 8, to extend downwardly within the back part of the galosh so as to come between the lining face 6 thereof and the shoe. Desirably, I fashion the pull tab attachment of a thin fiat strip of material of a character possessing a smooth side 9 and a rough side Ill, such as for instance leather or leatherette Many materials suited to the purpose in hand are available and I do not intend that the invention shall be restricted in this regard.
The smooth side 9 is placed against the wall of the galosh so that the strip will slide on the same with a minimum of resistance. The rough side Iii is thus exposed for contact with the shoe so as to present a friction surface that will adhere for the purpose of causing the strip to slip with the. shoe and thus enable it to slide without binding at the heel portion.
Satisfactory results are obtained by making the strip of a length to reach from the top of the galosh to a point within the hollow heel 1. The upper end I I of the strip is secured in approved manner to the top of the back 6 of the upper. This may be effected by stitching as indicated at The grip piece I 4 is arranged to extend upwardly alongside of the body of the strip from a point below the juncture I2 so that it may be easily grasped and pulled. When in normal position, as depicted in Figs. 2 and 3, the top edge of the grip piece is flush with the top of the galosh. The grip piece may be formed integrally with the strip by making a fold in the material and stitching it crosswise, as at I5.
By pulling on the grip piece I4 the attachment can only be raised a predetermined height controlled by the distance between the junction I2 of the strip with the top of the upper and the juncture I5 of the grip piece. It will be evident that the intermediate section I6 constitutes a hinge element that permits of the raising of the strip when urged by the grip piece.
From the preceding description it will be manifest that the galosh may be put on with ease by first partly inserting the shoe an-d then raising the pull tab attachment to the position shown in Fig. 1, the friction face I0 of which engages the heel of the shoe and the smooth face of which slides against the back of the galosh as the shoe is subsequently completely inserted. The pull tab attachment slides downwardly as the shoe slips into place.
What I claim is:
1. A pull tab attachment for a galosh, comprising a strip of substantially pliant material applied to the interior of the galosh at the back wall portion thereof and arranged for vertical movement, said strip having a smooth inner face for sliding against said wall and an outer friction face for engaging a shoe-heel.
2. A pull tab attachment for a galosh, comprising a strip of pliant material disposed interiorly against the back wall portion of the galosh and secured loosely in a manner to permit vertical movement of at least a part thereof, the part which is capable of such movement having a smooth inner face for sliding against said wall and an outer friction face for engaging a shoeheel.
3. A pull tab attachment for a galosh, comprising an elongated member of pliant material disposed vertically against the interior surface of the back wall of the galosh and secured at its upper end so as to depend loosely whereby its free part may move vertically, said member having a smooth inner face for sliding against said wall and an outer friction face for engaging a shoe-heel.
4. A pull tab attachment for a galosh, comprising a strip of substantially pliant material applied to the interior of the galosh at the back wall portion thereof and arranged for vertical movement, said strip having a smooth inner face for sliding against said wall and an outer friction face for engaging a shoe-heel, and a grip piece carried by said strip whereby it may be raised.
5. A pull tab attachment for a galosh, comprising an elongated member of pliant material disposed against the interior surface of the back wall of the galosh, said member having a smooth inner face for sliding against said surface and an outer friction face for engaging a shoe-heel, means securing the upper end of said member at the top of the galosh whereby the member hangs loosely with its lower end projecting into the hollow heel thereof, said means forming a hinge juncture, a grip piece connected with said member at a point below the hinge juncture and extending upwardly so that when pulled it will raise the member.
6. A pull tab attachment comprising an elongated member of pliant material for vertical disposition at the interior surface of the back of a galosh, said member having a smooth inner face for sliding against said surface and a rough outer face for frictionally engaging a shoe-heel, the upper end of said member being suited to be attached to the top of the galosh so that the other part hangs loosely toward the heel thereof, and said member having a grip piece overlying its outer face at said upper end and attached at a point below said upper end by which it may be elongated.
