My invention relates to improvements in portable lamps, and particularly to a light to be worn on the head of a mechanic for use in illuminating overhead work, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a simple, eiicient, and` comfortable arrangement of this character.
Other important objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from a reading of the following description taken in connection with the appended drawings, wherein for purposes of i illustration I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention.

Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional View taken through Figure l along the line 3 3 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is an enlarged transverse sectional view taken along the line `d--II of Figure 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is an enlarged side elevational view of one of the washers.
Figure 6 is a wiring diagram showing the lamp circuit.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numerals 5 and 6 generally designate substantially able flexible material has a loop 25 at its rear v ends as indicated by the numerals 23 to the outerside of the rear corner of the side plates 5 and I so as to extend rearwardly from these plates in a generally horizontal position as illustrated in Figure 3. An overhead strap 24 of suitend which is slidable along the side portion of i the bail as indicated in Figure 3, the forward end rectangular side or end plates beveled at their lower front corners as indicated by the numeral 1 and provided along the back edge and bottom` secured to intermediate portions of the side plates above laterally deflected portions I0, the
upper edges of the said side plates being spaced` and `connected by another web II which is provided with holes I2 through whichthe light bulbs I3 project into the space lbetween the webs II and 9. The bulbs I3 are in a pendent position and are inserted upwardly in sockets I4 which are supported in the bores I5 defined by superi imposed insulating material Washers I6, the columns of washers being located in side by side arrangement with bolts I6 and I1 arranged in iront and rear through the -columns to brace the columns in place on the web II and to securably pass through the lateral iianges on the inverted channel-shaped hood I8.
As indicated in Figure 3 the rear edge of the web 9 terminates at `the point I9 whence another plate inclines rearwardly as indicated by the numeral 20. The insulated conductors 2I for the bulb sockets I4 pass from the sockets through one end of the hood I8 for connection with a suitable current outlet.
`A swingable bail 22 is pivoted at its forward of the strap being secured at 26 `to the upper rear end of the portion 20 of the web II, a felt orl other fabric sheet 21 being disposed between `the strap and the top of the portion 20, the felt or the like extending forwardly and being secured along the top of the web II under the washers I6 for heat insulation purposes.
As indicated by the numeral 20 the underside of the inclined portion 20 on the web 9 is insulated and padded with layers oi felt or the like so that this part of the device rests comfortably on the forehead portion of the cap ofthe mechanic, while the horizontal portion of theweb 9 rests on the peak of the cap, with the overhead strap 24 lying over the top of the cap and the` legsand bight portion of the bail 22 surrounding `the back and the two sides of the cap on the head of the wearer.
If desirable the bail 22 instead of being of substantially rigid metal as indicated in Figure 3 may, asindicated in Figure 1 be in the form of a relatively flexible strap having adjusting meansv 29 therein. The upper surfaces of the web 9 and the portion 20 thereof may act as reflectors for concentrating and directing the light produced by the electric bulbs I3, the light from this source escaping through the opening 30 dened by the side pieces of the device and the webs 9 and I0, so that the light is directed straight forward in a standing position of the mechanic and straight upward in alying down position of the mechanic.
Although I have shown and described herein preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to =be deiinitely understood that I do not wishto limit the application of the invention thereto except as may be required by the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A lamp of the class described comprising a housing for the Lreception of the forehead portion of the head of a wearer, `said housing being of inverted U-form to provide a top and side shields, said top having openings therein, tubular insulation sockets rising from the top and having lamps mounted therein for projecting through the openings into a yposition under the top, a horizontal partition spaced below the top and secured to said side shields, said partition merging at its rear edge with the top and means for attaching the housing to the head of a wearer.
