3 Ciaims.

This invention relates to an improved comb.

One object of the invention is to provide an improved comb which will beparticularly efficacious when used on the scalp, either for massaging purposes or for the purpose of applying medicament to the scalp.

Another object of the invention is to provide a comb which is of such construction that it may be readily taken apart and cleaned so that said comb will be sanitary in use.

A further object of the invention is to provide a comb having a handle mounting a container for medicament or the like, said container being mounted in such a position that it may be conveniently squeezed by the user during a combing operation.

A further object of the invention is to provide a comb of this nature having a Valve for controlling flow of uid from the container to the teeth of the comb, said teeth being hollow to permit 'low of said fluid onto the scalp.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a comb having teeth on which are mounted tips which may be readily removed for cleaning or substitution when desired.

Still other objects of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, wherein like numerals of reference will be seen to designate like parts throughout the views, the numeral I indicates the handle of my improved comb. The handle is formed of plastic or other material and is shaped to t conveniently within the hand of a user. To this end, notches 2 are formed in the handle at opposite sides thereof and near its rear end. It should, of course, be understood that the handle may be of any desired configuration. The handle is formed with a recess 3 which extends from a point near the mid-portion of said handle to the forward end thereof, the recess being constricted slightly at 4 to define a pocket 5. As will be seen in Figure 2, the recess 3 communicates with both sides of the handle as well as with the forward end thereof.

Mounted in the recess 3 is a container 6 formed of relatively soft rubber or any other desired flexible material. 'The container B extends at each side of the handle, as shown at 1, and these extensions I are conveniently engageable for permitting squeezing of the container. The container is formed with a iiller neck 8 which is projected through an opening 9 in the top wall of the handle and said ller neck is normally closed by a screw cap IU, the ller neck, of course, providing means for allowing the flow of medicament or other uid into the container. The container is, in addition, provided with an integral outlet spout II which is reduced and threaded at I2. A sleeve I3 is fitted into the recess and extends from the forward end to the mouth of the pocket 5, said sleeve surrounding the spout II throughout its length.

Normally associated with the handle I is a comb element I4, said comb element having a hollow body I5 and hollow teeth I6, said teeth being arranged in spaced relation and having openings I'I at their corresponding lower ends. Frictionally or otherwise suitably mounted on the corresponding free ends of the teeth I6 are tips i I8 formed of rubber or other suitable material.

The hollow body I5 of the comb element I4 is screwed on a nipple I9 which nipple is dened by one end of a valve 20, said valve having its opposite end internally threaded and screwed onto the threaded portion I2. A valve body 2I surrounds the valve 20 and cooperates with said valve in supporting a valve member 22, the valve member having a stem and a head 23, said head being disposed above the handle in a position for convenient manual engagement.

In use, it is first assumed that the device is to be used for massaging the scalp only, without the use of liquid. When thus used, it is only necessary to engage the teeth of the comb with the scalp in the usual combing operation.

When it is desired to medicate or clean the scalp, suitable liquid is placed inthe container 6 and the cap I0 is returned to position on the ller neck 8. The valve member 22 of the valve 29 is turned to open position and the extensions 'I of the container are squeezed toward each other. Liquid will be caused, by this squeezing operation, to ilow from the container through the valve and into the hollow body of the comb element I4, whence it will flow through the hollow teeth I6 and tips I8 onto the scalp. Of course, the valve element 22 may be turned to closed position for retaining liquid within the container as long as desired before use.

As before stated, the tips I8 may be removed for cleaning or replacement when desired. The

use of these tips assures that my improved comb will be extremely sanitary. Also, in view of the fact that the tips I8 are formed of soft material, there will be no danger of injury to the scalp by the use of my improved comb either for massaging purposes or for the application of medicament to the scalp. Y

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

1. In a device of the class described, a comb element having a hollow body and hollow spaced teeth, said teeth having openings at their corresponding free ends, and removable tips carried by the ends of the teeth and having openings alined with the openings in said teeth, said tips being formed of relatively soft material for protecting the scalp of the user and being removable for cleaning or substitution. fr

In a comb, a handle having a recess formed therein near its forward end, said recess communicating with the sides and front of the hanasesora dle, said recess being constricted to form a pocket and having an opening communicating with the top of the handle, a container of exible material in the pocket and having a filler neck extending through the opening in the top Wall of the handle, a ller cap normally on the filler neck, said container having extensions projecting through the open sides of the recess for manual engagement, a comb element associated with the handle and having a hollow body and hollow teeth, and a valve connecting the comb element with the handle, said valve being movable to a position for permitting flow of liquid from the container upon compression of the extensions thereof into the comb element to flow from the teeth thereof.
