Description

H. JACOBS CABLE TERMINAL Filed April 22, 1959 tier/Ham mire/0L INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Dec.2, 1941 Hans Jacob s, Cologne-Nippes, Germany Application April 22, 1939, Serial No. 269,479
In Germany April 7, 1938 4 Claims. (Cl. 174-77) This invention relates to a terminal or endseal for a cable having a jacket of an artificial material. In accordance with the invention the artificial material of the cable jacket is packedor made tight relatively to the terminal housing by means of two or more packing bands or bonds which are disposed upon the heated cable jacket and are fused or coalesced with the same vby coating with acetone or other adhesive means, and which are located in corresponding packing grooves of the longitudinally-split connecting support of the terminal housing. A packing, for example asbestos, is pressed tightly into the space between the cable jacket and the housing wall at the place where the cable emerges from the connecting support. One or a number of various' kinds of insulating substances may be poured in to fillthe interior of the terminal housing.
The cable terminal that is illustrated in the drawing as an example of carrying out the invention has the artificial material jacket a of a cable 1) providedwithpacking bands which consist of one or more strips of artificial material disposed upon the cable casing a. Thesebands c are fused or coalesced with the jacket 0. by coating with acetone or other adhesive with heating. The packing bands 0 lie in suitable packing grooves d oi the longitudinally split connecting supporte otthe terminal housing I. An asbestos packing a is disposed between the articasing surrounding the cable, said sleeve being ficial material jacket a and the housing wall at the place where the cable b emerges from the I 1 connecting support e. Over this there is disposed a poured filling h comprising, for example,
an asphalt-resin mixture, and over that a poured filling 1 comprising, for example, brown or .white insulating material. The legends on the drawing are by way of illustration and not limitation.
It is understood that the invention may be variously embodied within the limits 0! the prior art and the scope of the subioined claims.
casing over the packing.
I claim:
1. A terminal for a cable having a jacket of non-metallic artificial material comprising, in combination, a casing, a sleeve at one end of the casing surrounding the cable, said sleeve being provided interiorly with an annular packing groove, and a packing band of artificial material encircling. and coalesced with the cable jacket and fitting within said groove.
2. A terminal for a cablehaving a jacket of non-metallic artificial material comprising, in combination, a casing, a sleeve at one end oi.v the casing surrounding the cable, said sleeve being provided interiorly with a plurality oi spaced annular packing grooves, and packing bands of artificial material encircling and coalesced with the cable jacket and fitting within said grooves.
3. A-terminal' for a cable having a jacket of non-metallic artificial material comprising, in combination, a casing, a sleeve at one end of the provided interiorly with a plurality of spaced annular packing grooves, packing bands of artificial material encircling and coalesced with the cable jacket and fitting within said grooves, and a heat-resistant packingpressed tightly against the cable jacket within the casing at the place where the cable emerges from the sleeve.
4. A terminal for a cable having a jacket'oi non-metallic artificial material comprising, in combination, a casing, a longitudinally split sleeve atone end of the casing surrounding the cable, said sleeve being provided interiorly with an annular packing groove, a packing band of artificial material encircling and coalesced with the cable jacket and fitting within said groove, 9. heat resistant packing pressed tightly against the cable jacket within the casing at the place where the cable emerges from the sleeve, and a poured filling of insulating material within the HANS JACOBS.
