Description

J. HEBEL. Harness.
No. 225,826. Patented Mar. 23, 1880.
M ETERS. PNOTO LIYNOGRAPNEFL WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB HEBEL, OF STEWARTSON, ILLINOIS.
HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,826, dated March 23, 1880.
Application filed J annary 31, 1860.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JACOB HEBEL, ot' Stewartson, county of Shelby, and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Harness; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a View of the end of a breechstrap with my improvement applied. Fig.2 is a view of my improved breech-strap fastening before being applied.
My invention relates to the breech-bands of harness; and it consists of a metallic frame provided with proper openings for the insertion of the straps and securedto the ends of the breeclrstrap, as hereinafter more specifically described and claimed.
I11 order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In Fig. 2 of the drawings is shown a light metal casting consisting of a straight bar, A,
having at one end an eye, B. The bow-shaped bar 0 has one end connected at the eye B and the other connected to the free end of the bar A.
From the apex of bar 0 rises a hip-strapholding device, I), made of the side pieces, a a, and the connecting cross-pieces I) 1), arranged alternately in different planes, one of the cross-pieces nearest the end being provided with a projecting pin, (1, for the purpose of holding the hip-strap.
The casting is secured into the end of the breeching, as seen in Fig. 1, leaving the eye B at its extreme end, the bar A being entirely inclosed within the leather. By this metal plate I provide means for attaching the hipstraps, which support the breeching from the back-strap, and also the straps which secure the ends of the breeching to the shafts, the latter straps passing through eyes B. The metallic plate may be struck up with a die or otherwise made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I am aware that plates similar in shape to mine have been used; but they lacked the strengthening-bar A and the points were supported entirely by the leather connection. Such, however, I do not claim as myinvention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The metal frame or casting consisting of bar A, with its eye B, the curved bar 0, and a strap-holdin g device, D, in combination with a breech-strap, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JACOB HEBEL.
