My invention relates to a combined signal device and clothing button and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provisio of a device of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, efficient in operation and economical in manufacture.

Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character so constructed and arranged whereby the .same may be used as a clothing button and at the same time serve as a signal to reflect light rays and thereby protect the wearer from accidents.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing. 7

Figure 4 is a view illustrating the application of my inventio in connection with 'a garment, for instance a coat.

In practicing my invention, as illustrated in the drawing, I provide a back plate 5 fashioned with a peripheral flange 6 which coacts to the rear wall of the plate to define a cylindrical cupshaped member in which is contained a convex reflective signal lens 'lyformed with a peripheral shoulder 8 engaged in overlapping relation by the inner edge of a confining ring 9, the latter being secured about the outer peripheral'face of the flange 6 as clearly illustrated in the drawing. The back plate has secured thereto a ring In through the medium of which the device may be fixed or otherwise secured to an article of clothing, for instance a coat H as illustrated in Fig-- ure 4.

Obviously, when my device is secured or used in connection with a coat or other garment, the same not only functions as a button therefor but also as a. reflective signal device whereby lights from vehicles and the like will illuminate the button and tnus serve to prevent accident by Wammg drivers of said vehicles of the presence of the wearer of the coat. From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and eiflcient form of combined button and signal device which can be utilized on various garments for buttoning the various sections thereof together and at the same time serve as an eif ective visual signal.

It is also obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as itcomprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. In combination with a clothing button of a type provided with a back plate for confronting and buttoned relation with a section of clothing and with said plate provided with a frontal marginal flange extending away from said plate and ordinarily adapted to maintain a front ornamentation in prejacent relation with the'plate for concealing the front face of said plate, a lens substituted for said ornamentation and positioned prejacent said plate for concealing the front face of said plate and characterized by a reflective area for reflecting light rays projected thereon for indicatingethe presence of the wearer of the clothing, and a circumlental ring circumjacently secured on said flange and fashioned with an inwardly extending bead disposed in appressed relation with the margin of said lens and securing the latter in fixed relation with said plate and flange and defining said area.
