This invention relates to improvements in cigarette holders.

The general object of the invention is to provide a cigarette holder for use in connection with automobile ash trays.

A more specific object of the invention is to provide a cigarette holder adapted to be used in connection with hinged or drawer type ash trays.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cigarette holder of such a shape as to allow disappearing ash trays to be closed with the cigarette holder in position.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel cigarette and cigar holder.

Other objects and the advantages of thi invention will be apparent from thefollowing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a front elevation of an automobile drawer type ash tray with my improved cigarette holder thereon;

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the ash tray shown in Fig. 1 showing the rear face of the front plate;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken on line 3-3, Fig. 2;

Fig. 4 is an enlarged top plan view of the cigarette holder;

Fig. 5 is a plane view of the cigarette holder blank before it is bent to shape;

Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a modified means for securing the cigarette holder to the ash tray;

Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the cigar holder clip;

Fig. 9 is a fragmentary front elevation of the cigarette holder with the cigar clip in place; and

Referring to the drawing by reference characters I have indicated my improved cigarette holder generally at In.

strip. The portion [8 includes substantially vertical U shaped cigarette receiving notches I 9 shown as two in number.

The strip is bent to form a second flange portion 20 which is inclined downwardly from the U shaped portion [8 and is then bent back upon itself as at 2|, terminating in an end portion 22 which engages the under surface of the flange II.

To secure the cigarette holder ID to a drawer type ash tray 23 (shown in Figs. 1 to 3) a screw 24 which normally serves to secure a handle 25 in place on the ash tray is loosened. The legs l3 and M of the cigarette holder are then inserted beneath the head of the screw until the portion 22 rests on the upper edge of the ash tray. The screw 24 is then tightened. The portion l8 being spaced in front of the ash tray, the latter may be closed with the cigarette holder in position. A cigarette is indicated at C in Fig. 1 as inserted in the notches I9.

In Figs. 6 and 7 I show a modified means for attaching the cigarette holder Hi to an ash tray 26 of a type not providedwith a screwed on handle.

In the modification a spring 2'! is inserted through aligned apertures I6 in each leg I3 and I l. The spring is then bent in a U shape and is inserted within the ash tray 26 until the portion 22 rests on the upper edge of the tray. The tenclency of the spring to straighten secures the cigarette holder in position.

In Figs. 8, 9 and 10 I show a cigar holder 30 which includes a base 32, vertical sides 33 having inwardly inclined portions 34 which terminate in clip portions 35.

The cigar holder 30 is used in connection with the cigarette holder l'fi previously described, the base 32 of the cigar holder being inserted between the flange I1 and the end portion 22 as shown in Fig. 10.

In use cigarettes may be held in the U shaped slots l9 and a cigar may be held by the clip portions 35.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. In a cigarette holder, a body portion, an inverted U-shaped portion secured upon said body portion, said U-shaped portion including spaced cigarette receiving notches, and a flange on said U-shaped portion, said flange being bent back on itself and having an extension engaging said body portion.

2. In a cigarette holder, a body portion, a flange surmounting said body portion, an inverted U-shaped portion on said flange, said U- shaped portion including aligned spaced U- shaped notches, and a second flange on said U- shaped portion, said second flange being inclined downwardly and bent back on itself and an extension on said second flange engaging said body portion.

3. In a cigarette holder, a body, a plurality of slots in said body, a flange disposed at right angles to said body, an inverted U-shaped portion connected to said flange, said U-shaped portion including spaced notches, and a second flange secured to said U-shaped portion, said second flange being inclined downwardly and bent back on itself and including an extended portion which engages said first flange.

4. In a cigarette holder, a body, a flange disposed at right angles to said body, an inverted U-shaped member connected to said flange, said U-shaped member including spaced, U-shaped notches, and a second flange secured to said U- shaped member, said second flange being bent back on itself and including an extended portion which engages said first flange.

5. In a cigarette holder, a body, a flange disposed at right angles to said body, an inverted U-shaped member connected to said flange, said U-shaped member including spaced, U-shaped notches, and a second flange secured to said inverted U-shaped member, said second flange being inclined downwardly and bent back on itself, said second flange including an end portion which engages said first flange.

6. In a cigarette holder, a body portion, an inverted U-shaped portion on said body portion, said U -shaped portion including spaced cigarette receiving notches, a flange on said U-shaped portion, said flange having an extension adjacent said body portion, and a cigar holder including a base engaged by said flange.

In a cigarette holder, a body, a flange disposed at right angles to said body, an inverted U-shaped portion connected to said flange, said inverted U-shaped portion including spaced notches, a second flange secured to said inverted U-shaped portion, said second flange including an extended portion, and a cigar holder including a base portion engaging said flanges.
