Description

July 15, 1941.
I' A. ZOHE BABY NURSING INSTRUMENT Filed Aug. 5, 1939 INVENTOR.
flflfidln i ATTORNEYS.
Patented July 15, 1941 Application August 5, 1939, Serial No. 288,661
1 Claim.
This invention has for its object a baby feeding or nursing instrument, which is rigid and shaped to conform to a nursing babys mouth up to the time the baby cuts teeth and to protect the babys tender gums, and by which the baby can be fed without irritating the babys sensitive tongue and mouth, it being borne in mind that the babys mouth up to the time it cuts teeth is shaped by nature to lit the mothers breast.
It also has for its object a feeding instrument which is substantially rigid and in the general shape of a nipple split longitudinally with flanges on opposite sides of the nipple formation for overlying and protecting the tender gums of the baby.
The invention consists in the novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures 1 and 2 are plan and inverted plan views of this baby feeding instrument.
Figure 3 is an end view, the handle being broken away. 1
Figure 4 is a sectional view on line 44, Figure 1.
This baby feeding instrument comprises a body and a handle, the body being spatulate and ovoid and formed with a bowl portion in the larger end thereof and with a channel leading. therefrom to the point of the body. It is also formed with flanges on opposite sides of the channel and the contiguous portions of the bowl. The bowl and channel are in the general form of a nipple. The formation is to fit a nursing babys mouth and tongue which is shaped and adapted to a nipple.
I designates the body which is ovoid in general form; 2 the bowl formed or pressed in the larger end portion of the ovoid body, and 3 the channel leading from the bowl 2 to the point of the body, the channel being of less width than the bowl 2. The bowl 2 and channel I arevformed by pressing the intermediate portion of the body along the major axis thereof out of the plane of the body. The bowl is somewhat spherical, and the channel rounding in cross section. 4 are the flat flanges on opposite sides of the channel and extending at 5 around the adjacent portion of the bowl 2. The instrument is preferably provided with a handle 6.
The bowl 2 and channel 3 are so shaped as to conform to a nipple and the contiguous portion of the breast and the flanges overlie the tender gums of the baby and protect the same against irritation when being fed.
Owing to the nipple-shaped bowl and channel, the instrument conforms to the tongue and mouth of a nursing baby and the flanges facilitate the locating of the spoon in the baby's mouth to naturally fit the babys mouth and also protect the gums. 5
What I claim is:
A feeding spoon comprising an oval spatulate body formed with a substantially spherical bowl in the wider end of the oval body and extending below the plane of the spatulate body, and a channel leading from the bowl through the point of the oval body and located below the plane of the body, there being flat flanges between the rim of the bowl and the side walls of the channel and LUDWIG ALVINE ZOHE.
