CLOTHES-LINE FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,657, dated. February 17,

Application filed October 22, 1879.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JASPER TJGRONK, of

Hoboken in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new Improvement in Clothes-Line Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the device with the arm extended. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the device with the arm hanging, so that the window may be closed. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the hooked bracket.

The object of this invention is to provide a simple and convenient means of adjusting a clothes-line and hanging the clothes from a window.

' The invention is an improvement on the linefastener for which Letters Patent No; 186,991 were granted to me February 6, 1877.

In the drawings, Arepresents an adjust-able arm of suitable length, that swings by a screweye orother convenient device, a, which engages over the hook or bracket B, that is fastened on the side of the window-frame 0, just below the upper sash. D is another open bracket, helping to support the said arm A,

. which extends inward from the hook or bracket B, as shown in Fig.1. To the inner end of this arm A is hung a pulley-block, E, over which a bight of the clothes-line F is passed, while the other bight of the said line F is passed over one or more pulley-blocks, G G, that are secured to ajpost or wall, H, situated outsideof and at a distance from the window,

as shown. When in this position the line F can be pulled along from inside the window over the pulley-blocks'E G, and clothes hung upon it with perfect ease and safety.

When it is desired to close the window the line F is caught over the hooked bracket B, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the said line may be retained in its proper place and at its proper tension. Then the pin 1), which holds the arm A down in the bracket 1), is withdrawn, and the said arm A is lifted out of the said inner bracket, D, and turned down and caught in the hook I, which holds itin a vertical position on the outside of the lower window-sash.

I t desired, a spool or roller maybe set within the opening of the hook or bracket B, so that the arm A may swing more readily when it is desired to lower it.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is-

The combination, with the swinging arm A, having pulley E, the pulleys G G on post H,

and the window-frame O, of ,thebracket B,

having a hook that forms the pivot of arm A and a support for the line, and is arranged in a horizontal plane passing between and at equal distance from pulleys G, whereby the swinging arm may be folded down without changing the tension of the line, as shown and described.
