Description

`nir @rares arent* erica HENRY BERRY, F BIRMINGHAM, GONNECTIUT.
WABTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters JPatent No. 224,832, dated February 17, 1880,
Application `filed January 6, 1880.
vand State of Connecticut, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Weiters; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction und operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specilication, and to the letters and tigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my improved waiter, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section thereof.
rlfhis invention has relation to waiters for holding water pitchers and goblets; land it consists in constructing such a waiter with a large circular depression for the reception of the base of the pitcher, and with smaller de` pressions, side by side, in front ofy said large depression, for the reception of the bases of the goblets, said depressions being respect-4 ively at the ends of the waiter, and projecting below the general plane of its under surface to form thc supports upon which it rests, all as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the waiter, provided with handles, which may have any fanciful or graceful outline, its body being plane at a, and provided at one end or portion with the large circular depression b, which is designed to receive the base of a water-pitcher, so as to h'old the same steady and keep it in fixed position. In front of this large depression, and tangential there` with, or nearly so, are'the small depressions or sunken places c, which are also of circular form and designed to receive the bases of the goblets', thereby fixing their position in front of the pitcher and holding them steady. These depressions l) and c project below the general plane of the waiter and have their bases on the same plane or level with each other, so as to form the supports upon which the waiter rests, thereby making it always steady, and obviating the necessity of extra feet or a supporting-rim.
The object of this invention is not only to holdlthe pitcher and goblets steady and in proper relative position when the Waiter is carried, but also to provide for their proper placing or replacement when the waiter is at rest on a sideboard or table, and thereby protect the latter.
It is apparent that the pitcher cannot be placed in the middle of the Waiter, and therefore the proper places Afor the goblets ,will always be free. The sideboard or table will therefore be kept dry, and there will be little goblet from a heavy pitcher, because of the ascertained position of theformcr with relation to the lattera mattei' of importance, es peciully for children and aged persons.
I am well aware that it is not new to make depressions` in a waiter, and, of course, make no broad 'claim thereto. l i l What l claim as my invention, and ydesire to secure by Letters Patent., is-
As a new article of manufacture, a waterpitcher Waiter provided withhandles, and having a large circular depression, b, in one end or portion for the base of the pitcher, and in front thereof smaller circular depressions c c, side by side, to receive the bases of goblets, said depressions b and c projecting below the general plane of the waiter and forming the supportsI on which it rests, substantially as specified.
ln testimony that rI claim the above l have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
