Description
April 29, 1941. v. ARxzA ELECTRIC FIHGERNAIL FILE Filed Aug. 26, 1940 m f mvsNroR ATTORNEYS v.Patented Apr. 29,' 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ELECTRIC HNGERNAIL FILE I Val Ariza, Tuscarora, Nev.
Application August 26, 1940, Serial No. 354,263
2 Claims.
My invention relates to electrically operated fingernail files and polishers and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a device of the above described character so constructed and arranged whereby the ille and polishing elements are quickly attacha-ble to and detachable from means opera-ble for reciprocating said elements.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character equipped with means for supporting the elements during their reciprocation and which serves as a rest or support for the iinger while the nail is being operated on by one of said elements.
An important object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which is simple in construction, durable in use, eicient in operation and economical in manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views: Y
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention. Figure 2 is a sectional View t-aken on a line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on a line 3-3 of Figure 2. l Figure 4 is a sectional view lt-aken on a line 4--4 of Figure l2.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view .taken onaline 5-5of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a perspective View of the le element.
Figure 7- is a perspective view of the polishing element.
In practising my invention, as illustrated in the drawing, I provide a hollow casing 5 constituting a handle and which is formed with a body section B having attached thereto, by means of screws 1, a cover 8. The rear end of the casing is provided with an opening 9 through which The front end portion of the body section 6 is formed with a square shaped opening I4 in which is mounted a simil-ar shaped elongated bar I5 for reciprocation therein. The rear end of the bar I5 has pivotally connected thereto the front end of a link IB. The rear end of said link is pivotally and eccentrically connected to the rotating member I2 .of the motor II thereby imparting reciprocating movement Ito the bar I5 upon operation of the motor.
The front end of the body section 6 has detachably threaded therein the rear end of a guard or support I'I as indicated at I8. The guard is fashioned with an elongated interior guideway I9 and on one side with a slot 20 communicating with said guideway. Slidably mounted Within the guideway I9 is an elongated and relatively narrow member 2l, for instance, a nail ille element 22 or a nail polishing element 23. 'I'he rear end of the member 2| has fixed thereto the front end of a shaft 24 which extends through a bearing formed in the rear end of the guard I'I.
The rear end of the vshaft 24 is threaded into the front end of the bar I5 as clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing.
In use, the nail le element 2| is disposed within the suppoit I'I and `connected to the lbar I5 whereupon the nger tip of the user is disposed into engagement with the guard with the fingernail exten-ding through .the slot 20 and into engagement with Ithe element 22. Operation of the motor causes the fingernail to be led, it being understood that .the nger is moved relative to the support I'I to insure proper filing of the nail. After the nan nas been fued, the support n is detached from the casing and the polishing element 23 substituted within the support for the le element andthe support and polishing element are then connected to the casing and bar I5 respectively. When the polishing element is thus connected, the nail of the nger is disposed within the slot against the polishing element and the motor operated .to effect polishing of the nail.
It is obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood Ithat the invention is not limited to the specic construction as illustrated and described, as the same is onlyy what i claim is; 1. A device of .the character described; com.- prising, a hollow casing, a nger supportl detachably carried by said casing and'formed with a' l guideway and a. slot communicating with said guideway. a fingernail operating element slidably mounted in said guideway and accessible for ensagement with iin'gernail .through said slot, and means carried within said casing and connected to said element for reciprocating the latter within said support. A
2. A device of 'the character described, com- 'madero ,1
prising, a finger support detachabiy carried by said casing and formed with a guideway .and a slot communicating with said guideway, a fingernail operating element slidabiy mounted in said guideway and accessible for engagement with a ngernail through said slot. a b ar slidably mounted in said casing and detachably connected to said element, and means carried within said casing 'and connected .to said bar i'or reciprocating 10 the latter and said element within said support.
