6 Claims.
This invention relates to containers ahd'more particularly to containers for removably' holding therein a wiper or like flexible articles.
It is an object of the present invention to'provide a container of the above nature having an open end which is substantially closable by the article to be retained therein.
It is another object of the invention to provide means to longitudinally place said article in any position within said container.
It is still another object of this invention to provide carrier means operable from without said container or housing to adjust the position of said article within said container.
Yet, another object of the invention resides' in the provision of means for loosely and detachably connecting said article with said carrier means.
A still further object of the invention is to pro-' vide a practical and eflicient container, simple in construction and aesthetic in appearance, especially designated for ladies handbags or'the like,
which container may be economically made of Bakelite, or other moldable material or any other suitable material, as for example, metal, wood,
etc. i
It is a still further object of the present invention to provide a container and a flexible wiper slidably arranged within andfguided by the 'wall of said container, and, in which container there also may be provided a compartment for receiving an article, such as, a lipstick or rouge,
the said wiper being employable to remove excess lipstick material after the same has been applied to the lips, etc.
Accordingly, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination of. elements and arrangements of parts, all as will be illustratively set forth in the following description, and the scope of the application of which willbe indicated in the appended claims.
With these and other objects in view there have been illustrated on the accompanying drawing forms in which the invention may be convenient- Referring now to the drawing in Figure 1, there is disclosed a housing or container It] made of any suitable material, such as, for example, moldable composition, wood, metal or the like in which there may be provided a partition I l dividing said container or jacket l0 into two compartments l2 and I3. Compartment I3 may contain a lipstick [4 or other article, such as, rouge, powder pack, etc. This article I4 is fixed within a sleeve or similar connecting means I5 to the holder I6, the latter-also serving as a cover for one end of the tube container I0. Article l4 may be withdrawn from compartment l3 by pulling holder l6 as with fingers of the user's hand. Compartment I2 is provided with an open end I! and also with a perforation l8 adjacent partition II. A wiper or handkerchief l9 made of suitable fabric or other material convenient for the desired purpose is drawn partly through a ring member 20, which member is connected to a carrier or cord or elongated sustaining means 2| at 22, as by means of a knot. The flexible, carrier 2| may be provided with a gripping portion or member 23 to manipulate said wiperfrom without said housing I 0.
, It is evident that to use the wiper I9 the same i may be gripped at its free end 26 and withdrawn from compartment l2, the strip 2i and ring 20 will naturally follow this wiper movement till member 23 is adjacent the opening l8 and being stopped by the outer wall 21 of the compart ment I2.
, Itjis further evidentthat the wiper I9 may be easily removed from ring member 20 and another 1 one readily substituted therefor.
In Figs. 2 to 4 the container Illa is provided with) opposite elongated slots 28, 29 forming 1 guideways for the slide or carriage 3i] guided in said slots as, for example, by means of pins 3|, 32. Slide 30 is provided with a perforation 33 through which passes the flexible strip or cord 34 carrying at one of its ends a loop or ring member 35 to which may be attached the wiper l9a to provide for simultaneous longitudinal movement of the wiper Ma and slide 30; the cord 34 is provided with a knot 36 at one face of slide 311'. The cord 34 may be provided with a gripping member 3]. The extremities of the slots 28, 29 determine the extreme operative position of wiper l9a (Fig. 4) and its inoperative position (Fig. 2).
While. in Fig. 1 the wiper I9 is withdrawn from container or tubular member ID by pulling the free end 26 of wiper, in the modification shown in Figs. 2 to 4 the heads or manipulators 31a;
and 32a of the pins 3|, 32 are employed as gripv :ner portions normally extend beyond said jacket and constitute means for withdrawing said handkerchief from said jacket, said jacket having sides frictionally cooperating with said handkerping members to negotiate the'wiper 1912' into and/or out of the tubular member or container Illa through slide 30.
The container or device heretofore described may be employed for various purposes, other than that already mentioned. It may be further used for containing a shoe powder or polish material instead of lipstick l4 and the wiper may then be utilized to rub said material into th shoe or polish the latter.
Bythe various means heretofore described,'a wide'range of variation or modification of charactefi$tics may be had. 5
t From the above description it will be apparent that there is thus provided a device of the character described possessing the particular features of advantages before enumerated as desirable, but which obviously is susceptible of modification and its form, proportions, detail construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the principle involved or sacrificing any of its advantages.
' While there has been shown and described and pointed out the fundame'ntalnovel features of the invention as applied to preferred embodi ments, it will be understood that various omissions and substitutions and changes in the form and'det'ail's of the device illustrated and its opera! tion' may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the'spirit' of the invention i V Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as'new and desired to: secure by 'Letters Patentis:
