Description

BELT
Filed April 25, 1939 INVENTOR 650265 FIND I? W ATENT AGENT Patented Oct. 29, 1940 UNITED STATES BELT GeorgeFinder, New York,'N. Y. Application April 25, 1939, Serial No. 269,951
2 Claims.
This invention relates to belts particularly for use in connection with trousers to which abelt is to be fixed, and more specifically to a belt disposed at the inside of the trousers.
It is an object of the present invention to pro-' vide a belt of the above nature which is attachable to the inside of the waist portion'of a pair of trousers or similar articles to give the trousers the appearance of being smoothly adjusted to the wearer and being maintained in position without requiring such accessories, as buckles, snaps, etc,
spective of the for attachment to the trousers.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a very simple, economical and inexpensive device of the above nature which can be readily sewed to the inside of the trousers irrewaist line of the latter, as related to the waist line of the wearer.
Still another object of the present invention resides in the manner of securing a belt within the trousers so as to vary the stretch of said belt in accordance with the curves of the hips and adjacent parts of the human body. a
It is another object of the present invention to provide a combined trousers support and constriction device adapted for holding up the trousers of the wearer and also for constricting the soft portions of the abdomen adjacent the waist line.
It is a still further obj ect of the present invention to provide a combined trousers support and constriction band which may be readily opened for which purpose the band is provided with two connectable portions, each portion having an elastic section at the free ends thereof.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following disclosure thereof together with the attached drawing which illustrates a certain form ofembodiment thereof. This form is shown for the purpose of illustrating the invention since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various parts of which the invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front view of the device made in accordance with the invention incorporated in a pair of trousers, the upper part of the latter only being shown;
Fig. 2 is a top view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a further view of the device made in accordancewith the invention, two parts thereof being separated. Referring now to the drawing there is illus-- trated. a pair of trousers ill with flaps II, I2 in I,
opened position to more readily show the front of the device l3 incorporated in the invention. The device. It is preferably made of two portions l4, l5 (Fig. 3). Each of the portions l4, l5 respectively comp-rises a front fabric section I6, ll
and elastic extensions or stretchable sections l8, l9 sewed respectively to the rearward end of each fabric section, as by a seam 20. "The stretchable sections l8, l9 may comprise narrow strips of elastic web preferablystretchable longitudinale 1y. ,Each of the fabric sections I6, I? which is preferably non-elastic or non-stretchable comprises an inner layer 21, an outer layer 22 and an intermediate layer orinterlining 23. The interlining 23 is preferably made of a material containing. horse hair or the like so as to give the portions l6, ll body. Each of the non-stretchable sections it, I1 may be relatively wide at its forward or connectable end 24 and may taper from said forward end towards the rearward end of eachsectionl6, ll where the forward ends of elasticstrip-s l8, [9 are joined at 20. Sections [6, I! are provided with complementary fastening elements 2.5, 26 such as the conventional snaps, but itis' understood that any other complementary fastening means may be employed such as for example, zipper fasteners.
In securing the device to the trousers the elastic sections l8, l9 are sewed to the waist portions of the trousers at the rearward ends 21, 28 and also at the said forward ends at points of the fabric sections I6, H as indicated at 29, 30 and 3|, 32, respectively. The elastic strips l8, l9 are so sewed to the inside of the trousers that one or more folds or pleats are produced between the extremities (forwardand rearward end) of each elastic strip or section I8, 19 so that the elastic strips may give when the trousers are adjusted to the wearer as clearly shown at 36 in Fig. 2.
It is preferred to further. secure the device at other points within the fabric sections l6, I1 such as at 33, 34 (Fig. 2). r g
It is evident that when the trousers are adjusted to the wearer the elastic sections l8, IS the length of which between the points of attachment 21, 20 and 23, 2D in its unstretched or relaxed condition will be less than, the length between the intercepted portions 21 and 29, 30, as well as 28 and 3|, 32 of the trousers, will stretch and then bear against the adjacent waist portions of the wearer and above the hips thereof as indicated at 35 and the trousers will thus be su ported on the wearer. By now connecting the fabric sections l6 and l! by means of the fastening elements 25, 26 the portion of the abdomen adjacent the said sections will be constricted and supported by said sections and lies flat thereagainst.
From the above description it will be apparent that there is thus provided a support comprising two portions, each portion being provided with a non-stretchable abdomen supporting section, and with a stretchable hip engaging section, each non-stretchable section having adjacent the forward end thereof complementary connectable elements, said non-stretchable sec-' tions when connected together extending substantially the whole length across the forward part and on the inside of said trousers, each stretchable section extending from the rearward end of its respective non-stretchable section across a hip of the wearer and being secured at its forward end to the inside of the trousers and to said rearward end of said non-stretchable section, the rearward end of said stretchable section terminating and being secured to the trousers between the middle of the back and the middle of the sides of the latter. Consequently, the rearward end of each stretchable section is secured to the inside and at a point beyond the middle of the side portion of the trousers, whereby the length of each stretchable section in its unstretched condition between said secured ends (each forward end and each rearward end of said stretchable sections) being less than the length of the portion of the trousers intercepted by the secured ends. The device of the character described possesses the particular features of ad vantages before enumerated as desirable, but nevertheless it is susceptible of modification in its form, proportions, detail construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the principle involved or sacrificing any of its advantages.
While there has been shown and described and pointed out the fundamental novel features of the invention as applied to the above embodiment, it will be understood that various admissions and substitutions and changes in the form and details of the device illustrated and its operation may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination with trousers or the like, a support comprising two portions, each portion being provided with a nonstretchable abdomen supporting section and with a stretchable hipengaging section, reach non stretchable section having at the forward end thereof complementary connectable elements, said non-stretchable sections when connected together extending substantially the whole length across the forward part and on the inside of said trousers, each stretchable section extending from the rearward end of its respective non-stretchable section across a hip of the wearer and being secured at its forward end to the inside of the trousers and to'said rearward end of said non-stretchable section, the rearward end of said stretchable sec tions terminating and being secured to the trousers between the middle of the back and the middle of the respective sides of the latter.
2. In combination with trousers or the like, a support comprising two portions, each portion being provided with a non-stretchable abdomen supporting section, and with a stretchable hipengaging section, each non-stretchable section having at the forward end thereof complementary connectable elements, said non-stretchable sections when connected together extending substantially the whole length across the forward part and on the'inside, of said trousers, each stretchable section extending from the rearward end of its respective non-stretchable section across a hip of the wearer and being secured at said rearward end of its respective non-stretchable section and at its forward end to the inside of said trousers, the rearward end of each stretchable section being secured on the inside and at a point beyond themiddle of the side portion of the trousers, the length of each stretchable section in its unstretched condition between said secured ends being less than the length of the portion of the trousers intercepted by said secured ends.
