p 1 Claim. This invention relates to dust guards for legs of overalls or work pants, and has for one of its objects the production of a simple and efficient means for preventing dust from passing up the inside of the leg of overalls, pants,-and the like.

A further object of this invention is the production of a simple and eiiicient angle-encircl ing means carried within the leg of overalls, trousers and the like, for tightly fitting around the ankle of a wearer to shield the leg of a wearer from dust, dirt, and the like.

By referring to the drawing, it will be seen that ill designates a trouser leg of the conventional type to the inner face of which is stitched or secured a guard or cuff II at a substantial distance above the lower edge IQ of the leg [0, as indicated at Hi. The guard or cuff ll preferably tapers toward'its lower end and is provided with a hem or casing I along its lower edge.

An elastic band I5 runs through the hem or casing l4 and has its ends secured as at IE, to the side edges of the slotted portion H of the guard or. cuff ll. shorter than the circumference of the lower edge of the guard or cuff II, so as to cause the guard to gather closely around the ankle of the wearer in the manner shown in the drawing, and to give freely under movement.

The guard or cut! II has its slotted portion l1 extending vertically for a major portion of the length of the guard, and this slotted portion I1 is closed by means of a separable 'or hookless fastener I8, of the conventional type. The closing element ll! of the separable fastener 18 moves from the top end of the slotted'portion I! toward the lower end to close the guard and in the opposite direction to open the guard.

When the separable fastener is operated to open the slotted portion H, the foot of the wearer may easily pass through the cuff or guard H, and the closing element 19 may be pulled down longitudinally of the slotted portion I! to close the same. The elastic band l5 will cause the lower end of the guard l I to gather tightly and fit snugly around the ankle of the wearer, as shown in Figure 4. The lower end of the guard I I may be placed in any desired position on the leg, after the fastener is closed and the elasticity of the band l5 will hold the guard in place.

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that the guard will prevent dust from going -up inside the leg of the overalls or pants,in this way keeping the underclothing and legs of the wearer clean, and providing a protecting medium for all workers who work on dusty floors or pavements, as well as those working around coal and other dusty materials.

It should be understood that the same device may be applied to a sleeve or other portion of a garment and that certain other detail changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, so long as these changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Having described the invention, what I claim is:

As an article of manufacture, a garment having a limb-encircling portion, a guard secured to the inner face of the limb-encircling portion at a point inwardly of the outer end of the portion, the guard having a longitudinally extending slotted portion to facilitate the passage of the limb through the guard, separable fastening means for closing said slotted .portion to draw the outer end of the guard around the limb of the wearer, the lower end of the guard normally extending beyond the outer end of the limbencircling member to facilitate the gripping of the guard by an operator and to facilitate the operation of the separable fastener, an elastic band carried by the lower end of the guard for snugly holding the outer end of the guard around the limb of a wearer in a manner whereby the outer end of the guard may be moved inwardly of the outer end of the limb-encircling member and firmly grip the limb of a wearer to adjustably hold the outer end of the guard in a shielded position inwardly of the outer end of the limb encircling member.
