Description
0. KLEINBERGER.
Suspender.
No. 221,578. Patented Nov. 11, 1879.
UNITED STATES; PATENT OFFICE.
OSOAR KLEINBERGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO ELSON & LAUFERTY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN SUSPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,578, dated November 1], 1879; application filed July 21, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OsoAR KLEINBERGER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, enabling others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
invention relates to an improved suspender-end. The same is formed of braid or cord. and has a series of loops or button-holes of uniform size. This braid or cord is bent double, so that the two parts cross and overlap each other at uniform intervals of distance, and where the parts thus overlap each other they are united by aid of a cord, string, or thread, which is wrapped around both parts of the braid or cord; or they may be held together by a metallic fastening or clasp. By thus crossing the braid or cord parts a certain number of times andfastening them together at uniform distances apart, a certain number ofbutton-holes are formed, as many as may be found desirable, practicable, and necessary in order to make the suspenders adjustable by placing the Suspender-buttons on the pantaloonsin any of the button-holes or loops formed by the overlapping of the braid 0r cord parts in the Suspender-ends, in the manner hereinbefore set forth.
Referring to the drawing, which represents a front view of a pair of siispender-ends em bodying my invention, A and B are the suspender-ends, formed of pieces of braids crossing and overlapping each other at a, and held together by cords or threads b b, which are placed at uniform distances apart, thus forming button-holes or loops of uniform size.
I am aware a suspenderend has been formed of braid, and that the strands thereof have in some cases been united near the lower extremity, and in other cases left free or disunited. Such construction I do not claim 5 but What I do claim is A suspender having its ends A 13 formed of braid or cords which cross and overlap each other two or more times, and are fastened together at their junctions a by the threads or cords I), thus forming a series of button-holes or loops of like size, as described, and for the purpose specified.
This specification signed this 25th day of June, 1879.
OSCAR KLEINBERGER.
