Description
P. S. BROWN. Suspender End.
No. 220,338. Patented Oct. 7, I879.
N. PETERS. PHDTU-LITMOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON u c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FELIX SENDYK BROWN, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDER-ENDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 220,338, dated October 7, 1879; application filed i -July 16, 1879.
To-all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX SENDYK BROWN,
of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and button-holes; and it has for its object to form a loop for attachment to a buckle, and to secure the free ends of the cord or band in a cheap and effective manner; and to this end the invention consists in a suspender end formed of one or more cords or bands bent and confined by clasps or fastenings to form three loops, one at each extremity, constituting button-holes, one at or near the middle for attachment to a buckle, the clasp near the middle serving to secure the free ends of the cords or bands, which feature forms the substance of my invention.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a cord or band having loops B U D, which are formed by bending the cord or band and confining the same by fastenings e f g, according to my invention.
The cord or band A may be made of any desirable flexible material-such as cotton, worsted, linen, silk, or leather-and either round or flat, while the fastenings e f g may consist of metallic clasps, or may be formed of various other materials.
The letter H designates a buckle for use in connection with my suspender-end, the same being provided with a hook, i, or other similar device.
In carrying out my invention, I first bend the cord or band A, at or near the middle of its length, to form the loop B, then bend each of the parts extending from such loop to form the loops 0 D, and, after having applied the fastcnings f g to retain these loops, apply the fastening e to retain the loop B, at the same time placing the extremities of the cord in this fastening, as clearly shown.
It will be seen that the loops 0 D form effective button holes, while the loop B can be readily inserted in the hook of the buckle H for the purpose of attaching the end to this buckle.
By my invention one is enabled to make a suspender-end with very little labor, one process saved being the stitching of the parts to an attaching-piece, and another the fastening or union of the cord or band along its whole I length, as in the ordinary corded or braided ends. It follows that my end is cheaper than those now generally in use.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A suspender-end formed of a cord or band bent upon itself and confined by clasps or fastenin gs to form three loops, one at each ex tremity, constituting button-holes, and one at or near the middle for attachment to a buckle, the clasp near the middle serving to secure the free ends of the cord or band, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of July, 1879.
