Description
JN YEAZ'TRJ ATTORNEYS.
May 14, 1940. L. c. cuLP RETAINING DEVICE Filed March 4, 1939 Patented May 14, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates to improvements in retaining devices and particularly to tabs for holding photographsin place upon the leaves of albums, whereby the prints or photographs may be readily secured in position or may be easily removed therefrom for replacement.
The principal object of lthe invention is to provide a simple and eilicient tab of the character set forth that embodies an adhesive border section and a tongue section capable of retaining the prints in engagement with the leaves of the album, the adhesive borders being secured to the rear of the prints or photographs and to the album leaves, respectively.
Another object of the invention is to provide tabs of this character that when applied to the back of the prints or photographs will securely hold the same in position and from which these prints or photographs may be readily removed and replaced with ease from the album.
A further object of the invention is to provide retaining tabs that are positive in action, eX- tremely simple in design and that may be manufactured at small cost.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specicaton and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Fig. 1 is a face View of one of the tabs showing the slit central section thereof and the adhesive border section thereof;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a mating tab to be applied at the leaves of the album and operates in conjunction with the rst mentioned tab;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section of one page of an album showing a photograph held thereon by my improved tabs; and
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the blank of the tab shown in Fig. 2.
Two tabs are required for each picture or print and the tab shown in Figs. 2 and 4 is first applied to a leaf of the album and then the tab shown in Fig. l is applied tothe rear face of the picture or print by means of the adhesive border section as hereinafter more fully described.
The tab designated by the letter A consists of 50 a triangular-shaped section of light cardboard or other suitable material having an adhesive border section 5 and a central slit tongue section 6.- The tab is secured to the rear face of the print or picture by means of the adhesive border section.
The tab designated by the letter B is of the same configuration as the tab A and is provided with an adhesive border section 1 and a transversely positioned slot 8 arranged across the wide end thereof. Said tab B is placed upon the leaf or page of an album in reverse relation to that of the tab A, that is with the adhesive section l do-Wn against the surface of the leaf or page and adheres thereto.
The tongue 6 of the tab A carrying the picture or print is then inserted in the slot 8 of the tab B and is slid into said slot 8 until the picture or print covers both tabs and securely holds the 15 same in position on the leaves or pages of the album.
Both tabs A and B may be permanently secured, respectively, to the rear of a print and to the face of the album pages and the pictures or prints may be interchanged at will.
It will thus be noted that I have provided a simple yet eicient article for attaching pictures to any leaf of an album and to which the prints or pictures may be readily and securely attached in any desired place within the same album.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred exampleof the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangementV of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A mounting device of the class described capable of securing pictures to the leaves of picture albums and embodying tabs capable of being adhesively secured to the pictures and to the album leaves, respectively, one of said tabs having a tongue and the other of said tabs having a slot to receive said tongue to interlock the same and hold the pictures securely in place.
2. A picture, mounting device of the class described capable of securing pictures to the leaves of picture albums and embodying tabs each of which is provided with an adhesive border one of said tabs having a tongue and the other tab a slot to receive said tongue, the tab with the tongue being capable of holding the picture to be mounted and the tab with the slot being adhesively secured to a leaf of the album.
