This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in holders and more particularly to a holder for brooms and like elongated handle implements.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a broom holder which will serve to hold brooms in broom head upright position.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a holder for brooms whereby brooms can be conveniently supported by the shelves in a store in a highly attractive and purchaser appealing manner.

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view showing the holder and a broom supported thereby.

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View through the holder.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.

Figure 5 is a perspective view of the holder blank.

Figure 6 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 6P6 of Figure 2.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen in Figures 1 and 2, that numeral 5 represents a store shelf and numeral 6 generally refers to the novel holder.

As is shown in Figure 5, the holder consists of an elongated plate A which has the shelf attaching portion 1, this'portion having openings 8 therein through which securing elements can be disposed and driven into the shelf. This plate portion 1 is bent on the line 9 and again on the line H] so that the portion ll of the plate can extend out horizontally as shown in Figure 1. The plate is again bent upwardly as at H and then backwardly as at l3, terminating in an elongated narrow tongue l4. The plate portion II has the opening 15 therein for receiving the rounded portion l6 of the broom handle I! when the broom is inverted so that its head I8 is upwardly disposed.

The plate portion l9 has the second opening 20 therein which overlies the opening l5 and is of a larger diameter than the opening 15 so that the broom handle l1 can be readily disposed therethrough as suggested in Figure 2.

The tongue I4 is soldered or otherwise secured to the top portion oci the plate I and the foot portion 2| of the upright 22 is soldered or otherwise secured to the top of the tongue H! as at 23.

A spring clamp 24 is laterally disposed from the upper portion of the upright 22 and grips the broom handle H in the manner substantially shown in Figures 1 and 2.

Obviously, with the broom handle engaged with the holder as shown in Figure 1, brooms can be supported by the shelves 5 of a store in an attractive and appealing manner to customers.

While the foregoing specification sets forth the 10 invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. 15

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

l. A holder comprising a plate consisting of a structure attachable end portion having a downwardly disposed supporting structure abutting 20 portion, said plate having a horizontal portion extending outwardly from the abutting portion and provided with a vertical outer portion, said plate extending inwardly from said verticalportion to define a horizontal portion spacially overlying the flrst-mentioned horizontal portion, said 5 upper horizontal portion being attached to the structure attachable end portion of the plate, said upper horizontal portion having an article receiving opening therein, the lower horizontal I portion being formed with a smaller opening de- 30 fining a seat for an article to be supported, and a clip mounted in vertical spaced relation above the upper horizontal portion.

2. A holder comprising a plate consisting of a structure attachable end portion having a down- 35 wardly disposed supporting structure abutting portion, said plate having a horizontal portion extending outwardly from the abutting portion and provided with a vertical outer portion, said plate extending inwardly from said vertical portion to define a horizontal portion spacially overlying the first-mentioned horizontal portion, said upper horizontal portion being attached to the structure attachable end portion of the plate, said upper horizontal portion having an article receiving opening therein, the lower horizontal portion being formed with a smaller opening defining a seat for an article to be supported, and an L-shaped post having its lower portion secured to the structure attachable end portion connected end of the upper horizontal portion of the plate, said L-shaped member having its vertical portion starting from a point adjacent the opening in the upper horizontal plate and provided with an article engaging clip at its upper end.
